Santa Anita opinions for Friday, March 17

Race 2 – SA
#6 Chuchotti (2-1) ****
Our Eyes: In case you haven’t figured out, I’m a big believer in the key race theory and this filly is coming out of a Del Mar race that has produced four winners from five starters. That’s enough for a single in all wagers for me.
Jeff’s Playbook: 5 units to win, 10 units to place.

Race 5 – SA
#7 Lauren’s Ladd (9-2) TURF ONLY ****
Our Eyes: Jockey Tyler Baze was on fire Thursday and hoping he stays hot here. This colt broke his maiden going down the hill and he finished second last time over a “good” surface. Maybe firm ground will suit him better. Trainer Ron Ellis is 33$ second off the claim.
Jeff’s Playbook: 4 units to win, 5 units to place and 6 units to show.

Race 8 – SA
#3 Irish Dame (4-1) ****
Our Eyes: This filly has been running on the turf but trainer Vann Belvoir gives that up and goes to the dirt as he drops her into a maiden claimer for the first time. He gets leading rider Falvien Prat and they are 24% together.
Jeff’s Playbook: 4 units to win, 5 units to place and 6 units to show.

Good luck.

Santa Anita opinions for Thursday, Feb. 25

Preview: .Another weak card, but we have to do our best to find some prices. Jockey Flavien Prat seems to be rounding into form so watch for him this week.

Race 3 – SA

#1 Candy Promises (10-1)

We get a huge jockey upgrade here as as the aforementioned Flavien Prat takes over of Chantal Kruse. This 3-year-old colt takes the huge drop from MSW to maiden claimers and trainer Vann Belvoir is 18% the first time he puts a horse in a claimer.

Race 6 – SA

#4 Ready to Hula Lula (5-2)

Unless there is a good first-timer in this bunch, this 3-year-old looks tough in this spot. She has speed and jockey Rafael Bejarano to ration it out. She had a good work since her race and trainer Mark Glatt is 21% with Bejarano at Santa Anita.

Santa Anita opinions for Sunday, Dec. 27

Preview: Not a great card, but not a bad card either. Some nice 2-year-olds will go two turns and there is a graded stakes, too.

 ==

Race 1: #1 The Custodian (5-2)

Seems to be coming into the race in good form. Has a good work over the track, comes out of a key race, has won over this track before and has the top Brisnet Class and Late Pace ratings. What more could you want?

==

Race 2: #3 Belvoir Bay (turf only) (4-1)

European import finished well back in the Flower Bowl at Belmont Park. Now she is shipped to the Peter Miller barn and gets Lasix. Miller is 21% with horses first time in his barn and good turf rider Flavien Prat is aboard.

==

Race 5: #3 Red Button (12-1)

Trainer Bill Spawr is 36% going from a route to a sprint and this gelding should be plenty fit in the stretch. Don’t take a short price in this race.

==

Race 6: #7 Ferocious (5-1)

This 4-year-old has a 5-2-1-1 record over the Santa Anita surface. Trainer Vann Belvoir claimed him at Del Mar and he is 4-for-8 when he drops off a claim. The gelding also has the top Brisnet Prime and Class ratings.

==

Race 9: #7 True Brillance (3-1)

This 2-year-old debuted in May with a second-place finish over a wet fast track. I don’t think it was the wet and think this son of Unusual Heat has talent. He has been training well for his return, Tyler Baze rides back and has the top Brisnet Prime and Class and Speed numbers.

Hasn’t raced in more than a year, but showed plenty of speed as a 3-year-old. There is a good work showing. Trainer Vann Belvoir is 3-for-8 in turf sprints and 21% with shippers. On top of that, jockey Corey Nakatani takes off another horse to ride this one.

==

Trainer Jerry Hollendorfer is 28% with horses first time off the claim and that’s what he has with this filly. She had a ton of trouble in the last down the hill at Santa Anita and might relish a return to two turns.

==

Santa Anita opinions for Friday, May 15

Race 3: #5 Finnerty’s Folly (6-1)

This son of Marino Marini is bred to win early both top and bottom. Showed an improved work last time out. Trainer Vann Belvoir is 14% with first-time starters.

==

Race 5: #1 Candy for Debbie (9-2)

Trainer Terry Knight doesn’t ship to Southern California much from his NoCal base so when he does pay attention. This 7-year-old gelding has a nice inside post to press the pace early and Knight is 33% (4-for-12) with horses off a 61-180-day layoff.

==

Race 7: #5 Two Is to Many (7-2)

Trainer Tim Yakteen scratched out of a race last weekend to try his luck here. This 6-year-old gelding has two wins at Santa Anita, a big work over the track and red-hot jockey Tyler Baze.

Santa Anita opinions for Thursday, March 28

Race 1: #6 Believe Too (NL)

This 3-year-old broke his maiden over this track and then threw in a clunker over synthetic at Golden Gate. Returns to dirt and in with claimers. Leading jockey Rafael Bejarano takes over and he is 29% with trainer Richard Baltas.

==

Race 5: #6 Rocket Heat (NL)

This gelding freaked when dropped into a maiden claimer, winning by 9 lengths. Trainer Vann Belvoir claimed him and protects him in this spot. The 3-year-old has been working well and comes out of a key race.
