Santa Anita opinions for Thursday, June 19

Race 2: #2 The Gold Monkey (5-1)

Trainer Bruce Headley is 40% first time going long from his last 15 races and he puts one of his barn’s top riders aboard in Edwin Maldonado (24%).

==

Race 5: #9 Tiz a Tommy Town (9-2)

Tommy Town Thoroughbreds LLC puts its horses where they can win and this first-time starter by Speightstown (16% first time out) is trained by Jerry Hollendorfer, who wins 28% with first-time starters.

Race 8: #10 Catalina Bonita (12-1)

Maybe the light bulb has turned on for this 4-year-old filly. She has been training lights out the last month. So good in fact that trainer Kristin Mulhall moves her up a class level, a move she is 27% with. Look for an improved effort with Edwin Maldonado aboard.

Santa Anita opinions for Saturday, March 28

Race 3: #4 Hit a Homerun (8-1)

I don’t know if this 3-year-old is good enough, but this much I do know: trainer Steve Miyadi has won with at least two first-timers in recent weeks at Santa Anita and owners Tommy Town Thoroughbreds LLC bred this colt and they place their horses in reasonable spots.

Race 5: #8 Codacious (9-5)

This filly has the top Beyer Speed Figure of thos who have run so it’s her against any of the first-timers. She has shown speed each time and now trainer Cliff Sise shortens her up again. Oh, yeah, he gets a jockey named Rafael Bejarano to ride.
