LONG SHOT: Reckless Gravity
Copper Fever
Secret Spice
LONG SHOT: Gone to Town
Hall of Fame trainer Richard Mandella is having a solid meet so far. In today’s sixth race, No. 4 Copper Fever (6-1) makes her dirt route debut after some just so-so turf races. She is sired by Street Cry, which screams long on the dirt. She has some good dirt workouts showing so I’ll take a shot.
Pee Wee Reese
Stormy Liberal
LONG SHOT: Right Hand Man
Jump the Tracks
Clem Dela Clem
Channel Crossing
LONG SHOT: Acclimate

Top choice winners: 2 (Takeo Squared $6.40, first race; Sought More Pep $15.80, eighth)

Good luck.

Belmont Park, Churchill Downs, Horse racing

Belmont, Churchill opinions for Friday, June 5

Race 2: #7 Joking (12-1)

Trainer Charlton Baker is 30% with beaten favorites. The gelding should enjoy the extra furlong and his runner-up effort last time.

Race 4: #3 Swipe (12-1)

This colt is still a maiden, but had a nice runner-up effort at Santa Anita and trainer Keith Desormeaux puts him on a plane for New York. By Birdstone, this horse should enjoy the extra furlong and brother, Kent Desormeaux rides back.

Race 7: #5 Boone Station (15-1)

Trainer Kiaran McLaughlin is 29% the second time he puts a horse on the turf and this son of Street Cry should going further.

Race 10: #9 Manchurian High (8-1)

We liked this 7-year-old on the Preakness undercard, but we didn’t get the kick in the stretch we expected off slow front end fractions. Maybe that was a better than looked and he’ll like going the 2-mile distance here.

CHURCHILL DOWNS

Race 8: #4 My Shout (NL)

Trainer Bret Calhoun may be trying to pull a fast one here as he drops this Louisiana-bred into a claimer for the first time, a move he is successful 26% of the time. Look back at this gelding’s best race ever because it came at this exact distance.

Tampa Bay Downs opinions for Saturday, Feb. 28

Race 3: #4 First Dibs (5-2)

Obviously this 4-year-old gelding didn’t take to the turf last time. Trainer Efren Loza Jr. returns him to a sprint and he is 50% with that move. Leading jockey Antonio Gallardo keeps the mount on the class drop.

Race 8: #8 Spoils of War (9-2)

Trainer James DiVito is 33% with first-time starters and the sire War Pass is 13% with firsters. Top jockey Antonio Gallardo takes the mount and he should be able to dictate the pass from the outside post.

Race 11: #10 Overlock (5-1)

Trainer Eoin Harty has put in a couple of big works after this 3-year-olds sprint debut. He now stretchs the son of Street Cry around two turns and on the turf. Harty is 32% with jockey Antonio Gallardo.

Horse racing, Santa Anita

Santa Anita picks for Sunday, Feb. 2 (updated)

Remember first post is 11 a.m. and there are only eight races due to the Super Bowl.

FIRST RACE: 1. Take a Risk, 2. Mahogany Run, 3. Qatar’s Pearl. LONG SHOT: I Buy Gold.

SECOND RACE: 1. Lake Maracaibo, 2. Intoxicating Move, 3. Amanda. LONG SHOT: Real Bright Boots.

THIRD RACE: 1. Visions of Candy, 2. Putahexonher, 3. Sheza Eyeopener. LONG SHOT: Room for Me.

FOURTH RACE: 1. Secret Circle, 2. Sahara Sky, 3. Wild Dude. LONG SHOT: Majestic Stride.

FIFTH RACE: 1. Majestic Gem, 2. Strollin Home, 3. Moscato Girl. LONG SHOT: New Nature.

SIXTH RACE: 1. Te Rapa, 2. Olympic Blue, 3. Yomybato. LONG SHOT: Tiz Dynamic.

SEVENTH RACE: 1. Footbridge, 2. Secretsatmidnight, 3. Cat Burglar. LONG SHOT: Got Even (scratched) new longshot: Seeking the West.

This allowance race is loaded with young, talented horses and it’s loaded with speed horses. Therefore, we are going with FOOTBRIDGE, a 4-year-old colt, which we hope will come from off the pace for Hall of Fame jockey Mike Smith. The son of Street Cry broke his maiden over this surface and trainer Eoin Harty is 28% going from turf to dirt.

EIGHTH RACE: 1. Unusually Green (best bet), 2. Prospector Alley, 3. Bodrum. LONG SHOT: :ucky Jack.

UNUSUALLY GREEN, a 3-year-old colt, has had trouble getting out of the gate in three career races. Hopefully, the son of Unusual Heat will take to the turf like most of his siblings. Jockey Joe Talamo takes over a colt that has improved each time out.
