Belmont Park, Gulfstream Park, Horse racing, Los Alamitos

Los Alamitos (plus a few other) opinions for Saturday, July 11

LOS ALAMITOS

Race 3: #3 Caliente Cat (3-1): This gelding loves this track and moves from the nighttime programs to the daytime and a bigger purse. Jockey Gary Boag knows this speedball well and trainer Justin Clark is 44% with horses that won their last race.

Race 7: #8 Watdifrenzdzitmake (6-1):  Will have to navigate from an outside post going long, but trainer Phil D’Amato has been pushing a lot of right buttons this year. D’Amato is 29% third off the layoff, which is what this 3-year-old filly is.

==

BELMONT PARK

Race 8: #8 Midnight Trace (12-1): This gelding broke his maiden first out on the turf and finished third on the grass in an allowance race, but then was tried on Polytrack, since he was an Ontario-bred. He returns to the grass today for trainer Graham Motion, who is 18% with shippers, and we love Scat Daddys on the grass.

==

Race 10: #10 Puparee (5-1):  This filly broke her maiden in her first time on the grass and comes right back against winners for trainer Dominick Schettino, who is 17% with maiden winners right back. Jockey Jose Ortiz rides right back after making a huge move on the turn.

==

GULFSTREAM PARK

Race 8: #4 Hear That Tune (4-1): Throw out this 3-year-old’s last race. He just doesn’t like off tracks. The race one back was sensational while just missing the win. Trainer Stanley Gold is 29% with beaten favorites and he is 3-for-8 with jockey Eddie Castro over the last 60 days.

==

Race 9: #11 Proper Empire (6-1): This 6-year-old moves up in class, but trainer Luis Ramirez is 48% with horses second off the layoff and 29% when a horse is second time in his care. Apprentice Harry Hernandez must work a trip from the outside but look for him to close down the lane.

Tampa Bay Downs opinions for Sunday, Dec. 21

Race 1 – TB

#9 Prothoe (9-2)

The outside post is the only obstacle here, but hot jockey Daniel Centeno knows how to get them in the right position. Trainer Barbara McBride has won with this 5-year-old mare before at Tampa.

==

Race 5 – TB

#2 Samka (6-1)

This 4-year-old filly tries dirt for the the first time after running on Polytrack at Woodbine. She showed improved speed last time out and at this distance that could be a key with veteran rider Dean Butler aboard for trainer Aldana Gonzalez.

==

Race  – TB

#9 Mashuk (6-1)

Our Eyes: This 4-year-old colt’s best finish came in his debut on the Arlington Park turf and he’s never been back on the grass since. He is bred to like it —- out of a Dynaformer mare —- and he’s bred to run all day. Lasix is added so look for a better effort.

The Leandro Mora barn, aka Doug O’Neill, has been on fire since O’Neill went on suspension. PRETTYPRECIOUSHEIR (6-1), a 2-year-old by Wildcat Heir, has early-win breeding and should love the Del Mar Polytrack with leading jockey Rafael Bejarano aboard.

SEVENTH RACE: 1. Goodison Park, 2. Eddie’s Turn, 3. Husband’s Foley. LONG SHOT: Play Hard to Get.

==

EIGHTH RACE: 1. Diamond Majesty, 2. Alright Alright, 3. All Indians. LONG SHOT: Prime Engine (SCRATCHED) new long shot: Sebastian’s Heart.

==

NINTH RACE: 1.Hadfunlastnight (best bet), 2. Life a Riley, 3. Regally Soul. LONG SHOT: Giant Ego.

HADFUNLASTNIGHT (9-2), a gelding, loves to win races, especially on synthetic surfaces (6-for-13) and on Del Mar’s Polytrack (4-for-8). He takes a drop in class but should be forwardly place by jockey Elvis Trujillo for trainer Victor Garcia, who is 27% with the jockey. There’s no way to get 9-2 on this horse as there have been scratches and will be two more Saturday morning as there are two “stuck” horses.

Jockey Victor Espinoza takes over. Bob Ike reported via Twitter on Wednesday, this horse is stuck in the race and likely to scratch. So we had to change plans.

==

FIFTH RACE: 1. Home Maid Brownie (best bet), 2. Siena Grace, 3. Sheza Dish. LONG SHOT: Bench Ruling.

It’s probably a safe bet jockey Martin Pedroza, who won three races on Saturday’s card, had his choice of the two Eric Kruljac-trained horses in this race and he chose HOME MAID BROWNIE (3-1), a daughter of Big Brown. She ran a big second at this level over the Polytrack in August.

==

SIXTH RACE: 1. Rosa Divina, 2. Southern Owah, 3. Bold Decision. LONG SHOT: Sunday Stroll.

==

SEVENTH RACE: 1. Charlie’s Angel, 2. Feline Forum, 3. Colonel Joan. LONG SHOT: Kadesha.

CHARLIE’S ANGEL (3-1), a 3-year-old French import, makes her second start in the U.S. She finished fifth at Santa Anita after a slow start for trainer Jerry Hollendorfer. She gets Hall of Fame jockey Mike Smith and Smith is a 26% combo with Hollendorfer.

==

FIFTH RACE: 1. Accelerant, 2. River Lemon, 3. Perfect Set. LONG SHOT: Welcome Home Ryan.

ACCELERANT (12-1), a 7-year-old gelding, bobbled at the start in his last race, but he has a win over the Del Mar Polytrack and might be coming up to a big race for trainer Donald Warren after a big work earlier this week. Jockey Elvis Trujillo is 2-for-7 with Warren.

==

SIXTH RACE: 1. Dyna Star, 2. Autumn Flower, 3. Conquest Artura. LONG SHOT: Scandal.

DYNA STAR (9-2) closed to finished third at 38-1 in a sprint, but that’s not what the Jerry Hollendorfer-trainee wants to do. She wants to go long on the grass since she is out of a Dynaformer mare. Elvis Trujillo is 24% with Hollendorfer.

==

SEVENTH RACE: 1. Honey Ride, 2. Only Josie Knows, 3. Kirov. LONG SHOT: Grazenette.

Santa Anita opinions for Sunday, Nov. 2 (UPDATED)

Just a couple of opinions for Sunday. Breeders’ Cup burn out. See you Friday for opening day at Del Mar’s new fall meet.

I’ll just say one thing about BC Classic yesterday: chickenshit call by the stewards and chickenshit of them to leave without facing the media. That’s what gives California racing a bad name. It was blatant interference and Bayern should have come down. Period. I respect all of the stewards in California, but yesterday wasn’t their finest moment.

As for today, there is a $1.3 million carryover in the Pick Six so I’ve added a few more thoughts on those races.

Race 5: #5 Dortmund (7-2)

A lot of trainers are starting maidens today on the Santa Anita dirt because the circuit moves to Del Mar’s Polytrack for the rest of the month. This son of Big Brown has been working well for his debut for trainer Bob Baffert, who is 22% with first-timers. JUST KIDDING has been working well for Eurton but don’t like him as a first out trainer. SIR SAMSON also working well. DA JENIUS ships in from Saratoga and comes out of a race with three next out winners. PASSINAFLASH is from the Mora/O’Neill barn and they have been firing with their 2-year-olds.

==

RACE 6: LIMINARY, ILLUMINANT, TATERBUG all working well. CALLBACK has been working great and been working with Dortmund for Baffert. Indian Princess and Natalie’s Wonder come out of key races.

==

RACE 7: 2-4-12-11

==

EIGHTH RACE: 12-2-1-7

==

Race 9: #6 I’m Already Sexy(6-1)

Trainer Wayne Catalano doesn’t come West much so when he does it’s time to pay attention. He brings regular jockey F. Geroux for the ride. This 4-year-old filly has early speed and will look to use it here. Tought race as FILIMBI just lost to BC winner DAYATTHESPA, WALL OF SOUND lost to JUST THE JUDGE, who ran well yesterday. STRATHNAVER big work, I like

==

RACE 10: I like LITTLE CURLIN. KING PTOLEMY, KIBOU and ROUGH PASSAGE, but ALFA BIRD will be odds on and tough to beat.

FIRST RACE: 1. Empire Cat, 2. Bandido Too, 3. Slapshot Man. LONG SHOT: Whoyougonnacall.

==

SECOND RACE: 1. Valentine Boy, 2. Zip Cat, 3. World Famous Sam T. LONG SHOT: Nextdoorneighbor.

==

THIRD RACE: 1. Bardy, 2. Thirtyfirststreet, 3. Malibu Way. LONG SHOT: Woodmans Luck.

FOURTH RACE: 1. Easter Fever, 2. Princess Bertrando, 3. Stormy Adieu. LONG SHOT: Party Rock (SCRATCHED) new long shot: Ashley’s Sassy.

==

FIFTH RACE: 1. Toppers Sunshine, 2. Boller Bomb, 3. Highly Rated. LONG SHOT: Marina Del Heat.

Completely throw out TOPPERS SUNSHINE’S (10-1) last race at Del Mar. This filly has a win and two thirds over the course and has five wins lifetime at this distance. Trainer Robertino Diodoro and jockey Fernando Perez are a 26% combination at Santa Anita.

==

SIXTH RACE: 1. Barbs Angel, 2. Constantine, 3. Arctic Code. LONG SHOT: Athens.

==

SEVENTH RACE: 1. Wanstead Gardens, 2. Sammy Mandeville, 3. Patriots Rule. LONG SHOT: Grachus the Hunter.

==

EIGHTH RACE: 1. Our Love Affair (best bet), 2. Steel lady, 3. Fast Magoo. LONG SHOT: Onedewoman.

OUR LOVE AFFAIR (4-1) finished a good second at Los Alamitos in July and was given Del Mar off by trainer Bruce Headley, who hates Polytrack. This 4-year-old filly pressed the pace under apprentice jockey Drayden Van Dyke, who keeps the mount.

Los Alamitos RC opinions for Saturday, Sept. 20

Race 4: #6 Desert Thief (4-1)

This 2-year-old filly just didn’t like the Polytrack at Del Mar. She broke her maiden over this track and drops into a claimer for the first time plus Hall of Fame jockey Alex Solis jumps on for trainer Cesar Dominguez, who has down well (2-for-5) at this meet.

==

Race 8: #1 Regally Soul (12-1)

This is definitely a horse for the course as he has given us two BUZZ wins. He gets tested for class in a tough field as he is the longest shot on the morning-line. He will come from off the pace and might be better play on the bottom of the exacta but definitely put win money down, too.

Race 3: #3 Summerofsixtythree (4-1)

This 3-year-old filly has finished fifth in her first two races for trainer Tom Proctor. The daughter of Malibu Moon comes out of a race where the top two finishers came back to win.

==

Race 8: #3 Sharla Rae (7-2)

This daughter of Afleet Alex broke her maiden over this track and then finished fourth in the Grade II Sorrento behind Sunset Glow. She’s had five weeks off and a good work at Santa Anita. Maybe she likes dirt a whole lot more than Polytrack.
