Gulfstream Park, Horse racing, Santa Anita

Santa Anita selections for Friday, Oct. 9 (plus Gulfstream Park West)

FIRST RACE: 1. Midnight Lady, 2. No Tricks for Jack, 3. Charlotte R. LONG SHOT: Mudge.

==

SECOND RACE: 1. Never Ends, 2. Sarahline, 3. Yana. LONG SHOT: Blushing Angel.

==

THIRD RACE: 1. Revenue Virginius, 2. Evo Campo, 3. Abets Abet. LONG SHOT: Campionessa Dolce.

==

FOURTH RACE: 1. Two the Punch, 2. Classico, 3. Ossetra. LONG SHOT: Knight of Drama.

==

FIFTH RACE: 1. #4 An Unusual Group (5-1), 2. Smart N Dreamy, 3. Frandontjudge. LONG SHOT: Rock N Bunny.

This filly has something none of the others have in this race: a win over the downhill turf course. Trainer Mark Glatt, who is 26% first off the claim, no doubt knew that and he puts leading rider Rafael Bejarano, who is 34% with Glatt at Santa Anita, aboard.

==

SIXTH RACE: 1. Love de Car, 2. A Colt Following, 3. Ice Cream Truck. LONG SHOT: Indiana Kate.

==

SEVENTH RACE: 1. Del Mar Ann, 2. Royal Temptress, 3. Bottle Blonde. LONG SHOT: Last Kiss.

==

EIGHTH RACE: 1. #1 Stellata (6-1) BEST BET, 2, Twisted, 3. Canadian Exchange. LONG SHOT: Just Bookin.

This 3-year-old had a nightmare debut and now drops from MSW to the bottom of the maiden claiming ranks. However, that doesn’t deter jockey Rafael Bejarano from riding for Peter Eurton and they are a 27% combination.

Gulfstream Park West

Race 1: #7 Turnout (4-1)

Trainer Marcial Navarro is 45% second off the claim and this mare seems to be on an every other race pattern. Today is the good race day. Navarro is 28% with claimers overall and apprentice Harry Hernandez takes the mount.

Race 2: #9 Soneofaderbywinner MTO (4-1)

There is rain in the forecast for Florida this week (when isn’t there?) so if this race gets move to the main track here is our choice. Showed speed going longer, but appears to like sprinting and is going out of a key race.

BELMONT PARK

Race 2: #3 Midnightatmarions (MTO) (15-1)

I would be just fine if this filly was in on the grass but she’s not so MTO. She was in the thick of things a year ago before bolting in the stretch and jumping the rail. She comes out of a maiden race that produced 5 next out winners. Jockey Kendrick Carmouche has been hot lately so taking a shot if it comes off the turf.

==

Race 6  – Bel

#6 Prize Taker (8-1) ***

Our Eyes:  Trainer Charlton Baker (has won 3 of last 8 entries) does well in NY-bred races and this mare has been running OK against some open company. The big change here is a switch to jockey Jose Ortiz after a bunch of no name pilots.

==

GULFSTREAM PARK

Race 3 – GP

#7 Summer at Susan’s (15-1) ***

Our Eyes:  Still trying to find her level on this circuit after wintering at Tampa. She won her last race on the dirt and returns to it here. She drew a dreadful 13 post last race and has no shot. That race has produced three winners so far.

==

Race 8 – GP

#9 Dreamin of Clarise (6-1) ***

Our Eyes:  Trainer Marcial Navarro has been spotting his horses just right at this meet (6-for-11) and he is 44% in a horse’s second race off the claim. This 3-year-old is taking a drop in class and jockey Luis Figueroa, who is 2-for-2 with Navarro, takes the mount.

Belmont, Churchill, Gulfstream opinions for Thursday, June 4

GULFSTREAM PARK

Race 1: #10 Famous Sting (9-2)

Trainer Marcial Navarro is 29% first off the claim and has been out at this meet, winning his last three race without a loss. This 4-year-old filly just broke her maiden and should fit at this level.

==

BELMONT PARK

Race 1: #7 Groupthink (8-1)

Trainer Chad Brown is a spectacular 46% going from a route race to a sprint like this 4-year-old gelding. The horse has been first or second eight times in 13 races.

==

Race 8: #11 Robe (8-1)

Trainer Bill Mott has better numbers with second-time starters and comes out of a Gulfstream Park race that has produced three next out winners.

==

CHURCHILL DOWNS

Race 7: #5 Vancouver (7-2)

Our Eyes:  This 3-year-old colt drops into a claimer for the first time for trainer Wayne Catalano and comes out of a Oaklawn Park MSW race that has produced three next out winners. Jockey Shaun Bridgmohan is 26% with Catalano.
