Santa Anita opinions for Easter Sunday, March 27

Preview: Just an OK card with large fields hard to find. Jockey Edwin Maldonado has been on fire lately and Kent Desormeaux is in the process of changing agents.

Race 6 – SA

#8 Bandido Too (7-2): This gelding has been in the money 50% of the time on the dirt (8-of-16). He finished second at this level last time and cuts back a half-furlong. There’s a good work coming into the ce and Edwin Maldonado rides for Craig Dollase.

Race 7 – SA

#6 Justonetimebaby (4-1): This is a first-timer from the Richard Baltas barn, who is 29% first time turf and 26% in MSW races. There are two big works coming into the race and the sire Latent Heat gets 9% first time turf.

Race 10 – SA

#1 Papa Joey (6-1): We think trainer Phil D’Amato got away with one first time when he ran this gelding in maiden claimer finishing second despite a slow start. He now moves it up in class and tries turf for the first time. The sire Papa Clem is 13% first time turf and D’Amato is 24% going dirt to turf.

We’re letting jockey Mike Smith handicap this race for us as he jumps off another horse and returns to this 5-year-old mare PURPLE ROSE (7-2). Smith is 35% with trainer Paddy Gallagher. On top of that she is coming out of a key race at Golden Gate.

==

SIXTH RACE: 1. Rocket Heat, 2. Price of Glory, 3. Guyfromtheskyfive. LONG SHOT: Bea Rocks.

Trainer Jeff Bonde drops ROCKET HEAT (7-2), a son of Latent Heat, into the maiden claiming ranks for the first time. The 3-year-old is a first-time gelding. Jockey Edwin Maldonado keeps the mount and likely show speed from the gate.

Santa Anita selections for Saturday, Jan. 3

FIRST RACE: 1. Call It Good, 2. My Charlie Boy, 3. Mr. Chase. LONG SHOT: Increase.

==

SECOND RACE: 1. Rocket Heat, 2. The Man, 3. New Summit. LONG SHOT: Blue Law.

ROCKET HEAT (10-1), a first-time starter from the Jeff Bonde barn, is bred to sprint, sired by Latent Heat. Bonde puts good speed jockey Edwin Maldonado aboard so this looks like a send job in a tough maiden event.

==

THIRD RACE: 1. Endless Cruise, 2. Intermix, 3. Tiz Futurity. LONG SHOT: Presiding Justice.

==

FOURTH RACE: 1. Zip N Bayou (best bet), 2. Lakwani, 3. Miz Penelope. LONG SHOT: Makena.

Love horses by City Zip, both in their debuts and on the grass, and we have both here in ZIP N BAYOU (6-1). Trainer Jerry Hollendorfer puts good gate jockey Martin Pedroza aboard this 3-year-old filly.

==

FIFTH RACE: 1. Kafister, 2. Pulling G’s, 3. Knock Em Flat. LONG SHOT: Papa Turf.

==

SIXTH RACE: 1. Q’Viva, 2. Cacica Dulima, 3. Susan B Good. LONG SHOT: Denotion.

==

SEVENTH RACE: 1. Seduire, 2. Callback, 3. Lady Lake. LONG SHOT: Conquest Harlanate.

SEDUIRE (4-1), a filly, returns from Northern California, where she won a minor stakes at Golden Gate. Now she returns to graded company. The third-place finisher in that race won a stakes at Santa Anita on Thursday. This daughter has speed and from the inside look for Rafael Bejarano to gun from the gate for trainer Jerry Hollendorfer.

==

EIGHTH RACE: 1. Dynamic Sky, 2. Tom’s Tribute, 3. Big Bane Theory. LONG SHOT: Skyring.

==

NINTH RACE: 1. Lyla Della, 2. Bernier, 3. Ski’s Copper Penny. LONG SHOT: Ruby N Diamonds.

ALL INDIANS (6-1), a 2-year-old colt, showed impressive speed at Del Mar while breaking his maiden. The son of Latent Heat should be able to handle the extra half-furlong and he seems to be enjoying training over the dirt. Rafael Bejarano rides for trainer Bob Hess Jr.
