Del Mar, Horse racing

Del Mar selections for Thursday, Nov. 20 (Bing Crosby Season) UPDATED

Entering the third week of racing at the new Del Mar fall meet and we see some interesting trends as far as post positions go.

On the Polytrack, inside is still the place to be, just like it was in the summer. Post positions 1-4 have won 62% of the races (18 of 29). The same can’t be said for the route races as the 1 and 2 posts are a combined 1 for 11 while posts 3 to 6 are 7 for 11 (72%).

On the turf course, there have been only three 5-furlong races so no real trends there. However, go around two turns, trends have changed. It was tough to win from the inside during the summer, but now posts 1 to 3 are 9 for 18 (50%). Keep an eye on it.

FIRST RACE: 1. Jedi Mind Trick, 2. Rocked Twice, 3. Vegas Street. LONG SHOT: Preacher Roe.

==

SECOND RACE: 1. Alice Roadtrain, 2. Here’s Bella, 3. Hollywood Royalty. LONG SHOT: Private Marina.

==

THIRD RACE: 1. Lookin for Money, 2. Golds Venice, 3. Lady Danger. LONG SHOT: Chia Love.

==

FOURTH RACE: 1. Kohala, 2. Push Girl, 3. Underhill Drive. LONG SHOT: Siena Grace.

==

FIFTH RACE: 1. Milton, 2. Pioneerof the West, 3. Cyrus Alexander. LONG SHOT: Madiba (SCRATCHED) new long shot: Call It Good.

I was prepared to make CYRUS ALEXANDER my best bet of the day but those post position stats made me re-think the race. MILTON comes out of the the DORTMUND maiden race, which has already produced one winner, so we’ll go that way, but an exacta box on the top three might be a way to go. MADIBA, a $700,000 yearling purchase, has been a major disappointment, but he is the “other” Hollendorfer in this spot as Jerry also starts Cyrus.

SIXTH RACE: 1. Q’ Viva, 2. Comin’offthebench, 3. Nero’s Bench. LONG SHOT: Denotation.

==

SEVENTH RACE: 1. Super Ability (best bet), 2. Hay Dude, 3. Bettys Bambino. LONG SHOT: Mega Heat.

Jockey Joe Talamo jumps on SUPER ABILITY (4-1), a 6-year-old gelding. which is stretching out after third place finish vs. Cal Breds. This son on Langfuhr has won in open company before at Del Mar. Look for Talamo to try to go wire-to-wire.

EIGHTH RACE: 1. Clem Juice, 2. Cape’s Rockette (SCRATCHED), 3. Caymus Kat. LONG SHOT: South Texas. New picks: 1. Clem Juice, 2. Gold Journey, 3. Caymus Kat. LONG SHOT: South Texas.

CLEM JUICE (6-1) is a 2-year-old daughter of Papa Clem, whose offspring does well first time out and vs. Cal-bred competition. On top of that jockey Iggy Puglisi and trainer Paul Aguirre are a good combo and seem do well in the final race of the day a lot. This filly has been training well at Los Alamitos.
