Tampa Bay Downs opinions for Sunday, April 3

Preview: There was plenty of rain on Saturday so the chances of there being an turf racing is likely to be slim at best..

Race 3 – Tam

#2 Supreme Stature (9-2): This gelding broke his maiden over an off track at this distance so he could be tough here. The 3-year-old has the top Brisnet Class Rating and best speed at the distance. Jockey Ronnie Allen Jr. is 22% with trainer Ian Wilkes.

Race 4 – Tam

#5 Desert Summer (4-1): Leading jockey Antonio Gallardo usually rides for trainer Jamie Ness but eschews his entry here to ride this mare for trainer Saul Matos, who is 27% first off the claim.

Race 8 – Tam

#2 Refer (6-1): This will be the seventh different track this colt has run over in attempt to break his maiden. He seems to like this track with three good works coming into this. Trainer John Terranova is 23% with shippers.

Race 9 – Tam

#7 Spark Kit (6-1) (turf only): We’re hoping the turf course dries out in time for this race. Trainer Gerald Aschinger is 20% on the turf.

Tampa Bay Downs opinions for Friday, March 25

Preview: There was a 50% chance of rain starting Thursday night so grass racing doesn’t look good for today or the rest of the weekend. Like the sixth race on the turf, but the weather gets me off it but if it stays oon look hard at #4 Harmnotic (8-1).

Race 1 – Tam

#1 Gasolina (5-2): Trainer Efren Loza Jr. is 41% at the meet, shipping some down from Gulfstream Park like he does with this colt. The 3-year-old drops in class and gets leading rider Antonio Gallardo. Loza is 27% going from a route to a sprint so this colt is plenty fit.

Race 3 – Tam

#2 Angel Falls (7-2): Stays at the same level after claim by trainer Thomas McCooey Jr., who is 31% first off the claim. This filly is also coming out of a key race that has produced two winners so far.

Race 4: #5 Megan’s Muse (5-2)

This filly just gave an even effort on the grass so trainer John Terranova drops her and he is 6-for-8 (75%) when dropping a horse two or more levels. Jockey Jose Ferrer keeps the mount.

Tampa Bay Downs opinions for Saturday, March 12

Race 2: #4 Harp N Halo (4-1): This mare likes to win races and she’s 2-for-3 over this track in the past. Trainer John Terranova ships her in and Terranova is 20% with shippers. On top of that he gets Irad Ortiz Jr. to ride.

Race 5: #4 Elusive Speed (9-2): Trainer Jamie Ness might be known for winning with claiming horses but he can win with first-time starters (24%), too. He also team up with Tampa riding champ Antonio Gallardo and they are a 34% proposition.

Race 8: #6 Family Meeting (8-1) (turf only): This 3-year-old filly was facing tougher in Southern California and won the Grade III Durante at Del Mar. Trainer Tom Proctor can get them ready off the layoff (21%).

Race 11 (TAMPA BAY DERBY):  #3 Outwork (12-1): Trainer Todd Pletcher is playing catch up with this 3-year-old. This is only his third career race but he’s a perfect 2-for-2. Pletcher is 29% with a first-time router and he’s out of Uncle Mo and an Empire Maker mare. Plus jockey John Velazquez comes North for the ride.

Tampa Bay Downs opinions for Friday, Feb. 27

Race 6: #8 American Merlot (8-1)

We’re going against the numbers a little bit here as trainer Chad Stewart is 0-for-15 first time turf, but this daughter of the Australian sire All American is 20% first time out and the dam’s sire (Unbridled Song) is 13% first time out. On top of that leading jockey Antonio Gallardo jumps on and he is 3-for-6 with Stewart at the meet.

Race 10: #6 Irish Jade (turf only) (6-1)

This gelding ran a decent race at this level in his first race in seven months last time out. He figures to be fitter here and trainer John Terranova is 6-for-15 at the meet.

Race 6: #6 Shore Runner (5-2)

Trainer John Terranova ships this 4-year-old gelding down from New York. Has never finished off the board on a fast track. Leading rider Antonio Gallardo takes the mount and the horse comes out of key race which has produced four winners so far.

Race 9: #3 Grandpa’s Star (15-1)

This 2-year-old tries turf and two turns for the first time. Her sire is 25% with grass horses and the broodmare’s sire is 15% on the grass. Worth taking a flyer on.
