 Trainer Blaine Wright claimed this one off John Sadler and appears to be co-owner. Wright is 38% first off the claim and he’s 45% with jockey Tyler Baze.

Jockey Corey Nakatani, who is a whiz on this turf course, decides to ride this filly back after a sixth-place effort. He must think she has some talent the Nakatani is 21% at Del Mar with trainer Eric Kruljac, who is 47% with second-time turfers.

 “Eikleberry off” has become a play recently as the jockey isn’t riding locally anymore and a couple of bombs have come in over the last week with new jockeys aboard. Such is the case here as Santiago Gonzalez jumps back on for trainer Mark Glatt and they are a 23% combination.

#5 Never Give In (8-1): This gelding faced winners for the first time in his last race and finished third. Trainer Kathleen O’Connell is 20% with sprinters and she stretches this one out to 7 furlongs.

#5 Expect Some Dreams (20-1): This 2-year-old filly finished third at this level at 7-1 for trainer Jane Cibelli, cuts back in distance and gains services of Antonio Gallardo, the Tampa riding champ. I just don’t get this morning-line.

Race 9 – GPW

#6 Paddy O’Wagon (turf only) (7-2): The son of Paddy O’Prado, this 2-year-old makes his South Florida debut off a couple of decent races at Laurel and Monmouth Park. Trainer Jane Cibelli and jockey Antonio Gallardo team up again and they are 30% together.

Trainer Peter Eurton doesn’t get them ready first time out so for this one to win first time out by 13½ lengths is impressive. Even more impressive is the fact he went wire-to-wire and had the best late pace BRIS figure.

This 3-year-old drops down to the level where he finished second at this summer. He has a good work coming into the race and trainer Tim Yakteen is 43% with horses moving down two or more classes. Jockey James Graham takes over.

Gulfstream Park West 

Race 1: #2 Megatoni (turf only) (5-1)

This 2-year-old finished sixth at this level over the track three weeks ago. That race has produced three next out winners and she gets a jockey change to E. Jaramillo.

Race 8: #7 Expect Some Drama (15-1)

Trainer Jane Cibelli is 36% with horses going down two or more class levels. On top of that this filly is coming out of a key race and apprentice jockey Harry Hernandez takes over.

Race 6: #5 Clearly Confused (5-1)

Our Eyes: This filly has been playing musical trainers lately, ending with her third conditioner in her last three races. But this much is clear she is coming out of a Del Mar race that has produced three winners already and she finished third in a Grade I over this track in the spring.

#4 Ransom Paid (10-1)

Key jock change here as Antonio Gallardo gets the mount for trainer Jamie Ness and they’re 5-for-12 over the last two weeks. This gelding gave an even effort last time at this level.

Race 2: #3 Gerry With a G (9-2)

This gelding just missed at this level earlier in the meet and then threw in a clunker. He comes out of a key race with three next out winners and he has a good work coming into this sprint. Jockey Fernando De la Cruz takes over.

Race 9: #6 A P Bandera (turf only) (15-1)

This 3-year-old was overmatched at Gulfstream Park so trainer Jane Cibelli ships her north for easier competition. Cibelli is 5-for-15 with second-time turfers and she gets Pablo Morales to ride.

Race 5: #4 Classic Kate (6-1)

This is a homebred for trainer Gerald Bennett, who is 27% with debuting maiden claimers. The sire, Meadow Prayer, is 15% with first-timers and is bred to get sprinters. Jockey Jonathan Zayas rides.

Race 8: #9 Katillac Charm (6-1)

Trainer Jane Cibelli claimed this 5-year-old gelding at Gulfstream Park West in October and now ships to Tampa off a pair of big works there. Cibelli is 22% first off the claim and puts leading jockey Antonio Gallardo aboard.

Tampa Bay Downs opinions for Sunday, Jan. 11

Race 2: #6 Mindfulness (6-1)

This 6-year-old mare is making her third start off the layoff for trainer Rory Barron, who is 42% with horses going from turf to dirt. She has been in the money 8-of-11 on a fast dirt track. Huber Villa-Gomez jumps back on.

Our Eyes: This 8-year-old returns to the shedrow of trainer Wayne Minnock, who is 29% in route races. Leading jockey Antonio Gallardo jumps aboard this horse, which is coming out of a key race that has produced three winners so far.

Race 9: #1 Favorite Ketch (10-1)

Our Eyes: Trainer Jane Cibelli is pulling out all of the stops here trying to get this gelding back on the winning path. She putting blinkers on (30% move), going from turf to dirt (33%), dropping in class and going from Gulfstream Park to Tampa.

Tampa Bay Downs opinions for Saturday, Jan. 10

Race 2: #3 Flo’s Strawberry (5-2)

The 6-year-old seems to be training well over the surface for her comeback for trainer Jamie Ness, who is 24% off 61-180-day layoffs. Leading jockey Antonio Gallardo takes the mount and will hope they show speed from the like earlier races.

Race 4: #6 Make It Snappy (10-1)

Looks like a tough race, but when in doubt go with leading jockey Antonio Gallardo and we get a price here. This 4-year-old filly finished fifth in her turf debut, but the key is Gallardo riding for trainer Eoin Harty. They are 4-for-6 as a team.

Race 7: #4 Favorite Ketch (8-1)

Trainer Jane Cibelli, the former leading trainer at this track, has been training at Gulfstream Park and is 2-for-2 when she has shipped to Tampa this meet. Here she gets the leading jockey in Gallardo and this 5-year-old gelding takes a big drop in class looking for a win.
