FIRST RACE: 1. #6 TRUE RANGER (4-1) best bet, 2. Last One Standing, 3. Panther Creek. LONG SHOT: Keepin It Lucky.

This colt makes his SoCal debut after two races at Monmouth Park. Trainer Dan Hendricks is 46% with maiden claimers at Del Mar and the son of U S Ranger has speed, which is key at this level.

==

EIGHTH RACE: 1. Bananappeal, 2. Mydancingshadow, 3. Show and Tell. LONG SHOT: Scat City.

Santa Anita picks Thursday, Jan. 30

I’ll be honest, not a fan of Thursday or Friday’s cards at Santa Anita. There are a couple of interesting races, but otherwise very boring. Maybe it’s just me.

==

FIRST RACE: 1. Mambo Man (best bet), 2. Square Dancer, 3.Hog’s Hollow. LONG SHOT: Mega Heat.

Trainer Vann Belvoir continues to play the claiming game. He claimed this 5-year-old MAMBO MAN for $40,000 on opening day and he hopes to improve upon his 30% win rate first off the claim. The gelding appears to be better around two turns, the only question is whether he wants longer than this, but last summer he was running some pretty good numbers against tougher company.

==

SECOND RACE: 1. Sweet Bliss, 2. Lady Bugatti, 3. Mum. LONG SHOT: Candy Eye.

==

THIRD RACE: 1. Master Chef, 2. Seeking the Sherif, 3. Hadfunlastnight. LONG SHOT: Candy Waltz.

==

FOURTH RACE: 1. Indygo Andy, 2. Senor Pegasus, 3. Angel Charge. LONG SHOT: Fearsome Charisma.

==

FIFTH RACE: 1. Van Dien Avenue, 2. Hot and Pleasing, 3. Kana Flavor. LONG SHOT: A Little Luckier.

==

SIXTH RACE: 1. Hoppertunity, 2. Day of Fury, 3. Snuggley Bear. LONG SHOT: Como Mi Padre.

==

==

EIGHTH RACE: 1. Londinium, 2. Know More, 3. Will he Amaze. LONG SHOT: Smart Masterpiece.

HRTV finally coming to Del Mar, sort of

Finally, HorseRacing Television (HRTV) will be able to show the races from Del Mar beginning next summer.

For years, the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club has had an exclusive agreement with TVG, but the California Horse Racing Boasrd had other ideas.

“The CHRB wanted this to happen,” said Josh Rubinstein, senior vice president, development for the DMTC on Thursday. “We were fine with it as long as TVG was, too. They were our partner.”

After two weeks of negotiations, an agreement was announced at Thursday’s CHRB meeting.

“Everyone will be probably compensated,” said Rubinstein, as both HRTV/Xpressbet and TVG are also in the advance deposit wagering business, too.”The more people that receive the Del Mar product, the better.”

What’s to be determined is whether HRTV personalities will actually be on the Del Mar grounds?

The simple answer is probably not.

The agreement will likely be like the one currently in place at other Southern California tracks.

At Santa Anita, HRTV is on-site while TVG just talks and shows the races from its studios in Santa Monica. At Hollywood Park, TVG is on-site while HRTV talks about the races from Arcadia.

Whatever the case, at least horse racing fans will have a choice of which network they want to get their handicapping information from. Todd Schrupp/Simon Bray vs. Laffit Pincay III/Kurt Hoover.

Rubinstein did add TVG would continue to handle the inter-track wagering show like it has for the last few years.

Hollywood Park picks for Friday, Nov. 22 (updated)

They will be off the turf again on Friday at Hollywood Park.

FIRST RACE: 1. Go Black Tie, 2. Hoppertunity (SCRATCHED), 3. Hold Everything. LONG SHOT: Candy Boy.

Trainer Craig Dollase knows how to get a first-time starter ready (42%) and he’s good with 2-year-olds (29%) like GO BLACK TIE. Here he sends the son of Borrego around two turns in his initial run and Dollase puts jockey Edwin Maldonado aboard and they have good numbers together.

==

SECOND RACE: 1. Poshsky, 2. Quick Cielo, 3. Tommo. LONG SHOT: Ancient Stone.

Don’t forget this race is off the turf.

==

THIRD RACE: 1. Sidepocket Champ, 2. Wonderful Union, 3. Burlister. LONG SHOT: Second Proposal.

==

FOURTH RACE: 1. Blunderstone, 2. Fashion Plate, 3. Morning Star. LONG SHOT: Afsana.

Trainer Eoin Harty does pretty well with stretching horses out and this daughter of Birdstone named BLUNDERSTONE is bred to run all day. She showed a little bit of interest while finishing fourth at 7 furlongs. Going two turns should be right up her alley.

==

FIFTH RACE: 1. Rovenna, 2. Meinertzhageni, 3. Prayer Be Mine. LONG SHOT: Feature Attraction.

ACCOMMODATION would have been my pick in this race off his impressive maiden score, but he is “stuck” and likely to scratch Friday morning. Note: as of 10:42 a.m. Accommodation isn’t scratched. My new order: 1. Accommodation, 2. Rovenna, 3. Meinertzhageni, 4. Prayer Be Mine. LONG SHOT: Feature Attraction. NEVER MIND ACCOMMODATION IS SCRATCHED AS EXPECTED. BACK TO ORIGINAL PICKS. GEEZ.

==

SIXTH RACE: 1. Larocco, 2. Frandontjudge, 3. Golden Celestial. LONG SHOT: Diamonddusted.

==

SEVENTH RACE: 1. Mechaya, 2. Mum’s Truckee, 3. Spring Breeze. LONG SHOT: Tappingintherain.

==

EIGHTH RACE: 1. Tribal Rain, 2. Pure Blush, 3. Pawn Shop. LONG SHOT: English Puddin.

Thursday’s top choice winners: 2 (Midnight Casanova $4, fourth; Marino Mizer $4.80, eighth)

Thursday’s second choice winners: 2 (Key Vista $3, second; Tiz Zoe Cee $7.80, third)

Thursday’s third choice winners: 3 (Educated Guess $4.20, first; Money Clip $9.40, sixth; Master Chef $6.60, seventh)

Thursday’s long shot winners: 0

Wednesday’s updated Del Mar picks

Sorry haven’t been posting much in the last week, but been battling kidney stones since Friday afternoon.

==

Jeff Nahill’s picks for Wednesday, July 17

==

FIRST RACE: 1. Casa de Cambio, 2. Titian, 3. Husband’s Folly. LONG SHOT: Golden Mexico.

Defending training champion Peter Miller received a shipment of horses from New Mexico for Del Mar’s “Ship and Win” program and he’s starts right off in the first race with CASA DE CAMBIO. He gets the nation’s leading jockey, Joel Rosario, to ride and inside is always good going a distance of ground on the Polytrack.

==

SECOND RACE: 1. This One’s for Mel, 2.Sinfully, 3. Bipartisan. LONG SHOT: Keep Movin’

Could be a Miller daily double to start the meet off with. THIS ONE’S FOR MEL has inside speed and gets a key jockey switch from apprentice Orozco to Garrett Gomez.

==

THIRD RACE: 1. Katy’s Star, 2. Wink and Wish, 3. Bluegrass Ellie. LONG SHOT: Say Say.

KATY’S STAR ships down from Golden Gate into a mediocre field and gains the services of defending riding champion Rafael Bejarano.

==

FOURTH RACE: 1. Gab Power, 2. Cyclometer, 3. Duke of Doom. LONG SHOT: Huntsville.

Went a little bit out of my comfort zone when it comes to post position on the turf course, but GAB POWER has Joe Talamo riding on the turf and we love that. Basically on Del Mar’s turf you want to be in one of the first five gates, but Gab Power starts from No. 7 here.

==

FIFTH RACE: 1. Moving Desert, 2. My Lucky Rose, 3. Cause Ur My Baby. LONG SHOT: Betty Bing Bing.

Owner John Harris loves to win races and on opening day at Del Mar would be just fine with MOVING DESERT, who has shown speed in her first two races. Bob Baffert’s MY LUCKY ROSE has a big work showing for her debut and so does BETTY BING BING, but Betty’s trainer, Peter Eurton, is 0-for-31 with first-time starters.

==

SIXTH RACE (OCEANSIDE STAKES, First division): 1. Undrafted, 2. Gervinho, 3.Examen. LONG SHOT: Greeley Awesome.

UNDRAFTED is owned by Denver Broncos receiver Wes Welker and trained by Wesley Ward. He was on the Triple Crown trail for a while this spring, but wasn’t good enough. GREELEY AWESOME could be the upsetter. He was claimed for $40,000 by John Sadler and has been working well for this spot.

==

SEVENTH RACE: 1. Royal Meridian, 2. Chasing the Heat, 3. Legal Separation. LONG SHOT: Peacenik.

Del Mar is a “horse-for-courses” track and you won’t go wrong betting those which have done well here in the past. ROYAL MERIDIAN is 2-for-2 on the Polytrack.

==

EIGHTH RACE: 1. Bro’s Bro, 2. Love de Car, 3. Senor Snickers. LONG SHOT: In Excessiveness.

BRO’S BRO showed speed in his debut and switches to Talamo. He figures to improved off that effort. LOVE DE CAR could be a sneaky sort and may have races under his belt at unrecognized Utah tracks. Be careful.

==

NINTH RACE (Oceanside Stakes, second division): 1. Den’s Legacy, 2. Joelito, 3. Rosengold. LONG SHOT: Gabriel Charles.

DEN’S ELGACY comes out of the best races and draws the cozy No. 3 post. JOELITO has shown potential all along on the turf and ROSENGOLD is undefeated on the surface, but draws on the outside.

==

10TH RACE: 1. BIG MACHER (best bet), 2. Promissoryexchange, 3. Jimmy the Whip. LONG SHOT: Valid But True.

Trainer Miller is 28 percent first first-time starters at Del Mar the last three years and he gets Rosario to ride here. Joel could be heading to dinner rather than ride a maiden claimer so this one must be live.
