This daughter of Bernardini was bred to route. She finished fourth at 5 ½ furlongs and that was just a prep for this as jockey Mike Smith jumps on for trainer Bob Baffert, who is 28% with first-time routers.

==

SEVENTH RACE: 1. #6 Tatum’s Gold (30-1), 2. Glory, 3. Whisk. LONG SHOT: Madam Aamoura.

Gonna take a big swing here with this long shot as the sire Grazen is 29% with first-time turf, albeit with a small sample. Still, shows some like of the turf. Trainer Steve Miyadi is 22% first time turf and good turf jockey Joe Talamo jumps back on.

Del Mar selections for Thursday, August 6

Tough to explain some of Wednesday’s results other than the track was worked on Tuesday and you just never no how it is going to play on Wednesdays. Hats off to those who hit the long shots. I had no clue (obviously if you look at the results). Good luck.

FIRST RACE: 1. Avicii, 2. Always a Chance, 3. Swissarella. LONG SHOT: Two Step Flor.

==
SECOND RACE: 1. Scarlet Emerald, 2. Mitzi Winks, 3. Amare. LONG SHOT: Lady of the Lake.
==
THIRD RACE: 1. #2 CORNBREAD RED (4-1) best bet, 2. Know Plans, 3. Saticoy. LONG SHOT: Tribalist.

This colt makes his turf debut for a sire (Grazen) that is OK with those types. Trainer Phil D’Amato is 35% for an 180-day layoff or more, 22% turf/dirt and 31% with horses that won their last race.

==
FOURTH RACE: 1. Jet Warrior, 2. Not Enough Eddie, 3. The Cleaners. LONG SHOT: Chapman’s Peak.
==
FIFTH RACE: 1. #1 Alltheleavesrbrown (5-1), 2. Feynman, 3. Architop. LONG SHOT: Admiral Jaxon.

Midwestern trainer Michael Stidham tries for some more “Ship N Win” money with this son of Big Brown. When last seen at Arlington Park, he finished second in his turf debut. Stidham can get them ready off a long layoff (25%) and jockey Joe Talamo is 27% with Stidham.

==
SIXTH RACE: 1. #6 Atlantic Slew (6-1), 2. Tiz Pleasant, 3. Gracee Hunny. LONG SHOT: Briana Jean.

This 2-year-old filly ran into a buzz saw in her debut as the winner, Obey, came back to win a Cal-bred stakes recently. Trainer Mike Puype does well in the state-bred ranks and he is 23% going from MSW to maiden claimers.

==
SEVENTH RACE: 1. Istanford, 2. Famous Alice, 3. She’s Not Here. LONG SHOT: Indecise.
==
EIGHTH RACE: 1. Miltee, 2. Jens de Ville, 3. Out of Mischief. LONG SHOT: Ghost of Navigator.

Los Alamitos (plus Gulfstream) opinions for Friday, July 10

Race 5: #5 Lazy Daisy May (12-1)

Trainer Molly Pearson Usually puts her horses in the right spots. This filly is dropping to her lowest level ever on this circuit and comes out of a Turf paradise race that has produced three winners. Jockey Scott Stevens (33% with Pearson) rides the 4-year-old back.

==

Race 7: #11 Cornbread Red (4-1)

This colt must draw into the race, but if he does watch out. The 3-year-old is coming out of a key race and trainer Phil D’Amato is having a great 2015. D’Amato is 35% with horses coming off a layoff of more than 180 days and this son of Grazen won over the track in December.

 ==

GULFSTREAM PARK

Race 6: #7 Bottle Walk (7-2)

Trainer Wesley Ward is a master with first-time starters (26% debuting maiden claimers) and this is a daughter of Tale of the Cat, who gets 16% first-time starters. Apprentice John Cruz has won 2 of his last 4 races for Ward.

==

Race 9: #9 Senshi (5-1)

This son of Pulpit is making his turf debut and the sire is 10% with those kind. Trainer Joe Catanese is 23% third off the layoff and this gelding looks to be on the improve and crying out for two turns. Apprentice Harry Hernandez rides and a five-pound weight break.

Santa Anita opinions for Saturday, June 20

Race 1: #5 Ain’t Misbehavin (5-2)

Trainer Mike Puype claimed this 3-year-old and he is 26% first off the claim. On top of that he makes a big jockey switch to Rafael Bejarano. Pupye is also 40% when he drops off the claim.

==

Race 4: #2 Rocker (15-1)

This gelding has been running at Golden Gate on the grass for trainer Steve Miyadi, who is 63% when he drops a horse off a win. The sire Grazen is 28% on the grass, but maybe more importantly this 3-year-old is running against Cal-breds for the first time since his career debut and jockey Alex Solis jumps on.

==

Race 9: #12 Gigantis (12-1)

Trainer Bruce Headley hit with a first-time router on Thursday and he tries the same formula here with the same jockey in Edwin Maldonado. Headley is 40% first-time route and 21% first time grass. The sire Cyclotron is 20% first tome grass. The post is an obstacle, but that just means a bigger price.

Santa Anita opinions for Saturday, May 23

Race 5: #2 Maximinus (4-1)

Jockey Flavin Prat had is choice of horses in this race and picks this 4-year-old. The gelding pressed the pace in his last at this level but steadied at the top of the stretch.

==

Race 8: #9 Rocko’s Wheel (6-1)

This 3-year-old makes his debut on the turf. Trainer Phil D’Amato is 26% first-time turf and the sire Grazen is 30% first-time on the green. Jockey Joe Talamo keeps the ride.

==

Race 9: #3 Magic Mark (10-1)

Trainer Ron Ellis is 38% in non-graded stakes so he’s worth a look in this spot.

==

Race 10: #1 Silver Spirit (8-1)

The son of Tapit closed some ground last time, but trainer Julio Canani, who is 34% third off the layoff, shortens him up to a mile. Jockey Alex Solis had a trouble trip last time and needs to avoid trouble from the rail here.
