Tampa Bay Downs opinions for Wednesday, March 2

Preview: Looks like a warm up in the weather this week. There’s a 20% chance of rain on Wednesday and Friday so it looks like good week. We all know the top jockeys on the dirt but here are some riders that have been less than 10% on the main track: Pedro Monterrey Jr. (6-83), Keiber Coa (5-89), Huber Villa-Gomez (4-83), Gary Wales (4-65), Mike Allen (3-55) and Erick Rodriguez (3-43).

Race 3 – Tam

#3 The A Plan (5-1)

This gelding is making his third race off the layoff and comes out of a key raced that has produced two winners of three starters. Also, jockey Fernando De La Cruz jumps on and he is 5-for-15 with trainer Ray Trisler at the meet.

Race 6 – Tam

#2 Queen Fiddle (turf only) (15-1)

Another horse running third off the layoff. Trainer Anthony Pecoraro is 36% with horses making their second start on Lasix. Also Pecoraro was 36% with stretch outs at Tampa last year.

Race 9 – Tam

#1 Strollingintherain (5-2)

Just throw out that last try on the turf because the mare didn’t like it. Trainer Jason DaCosta is 30% going turf to dirt and 37% going from a route to a sprint. DaCosta is 17% with jockey Fernando De La Cruz at the meet.

Tampa Bay Downs opinions for Sunday, Jan. 31

Preview: Not a great card as the fields are smaller than usual and there are just nine races.

Race 4: 11 Skiffs Brewmeister (6-1)

This gelding has the top Brisnet class rating but has two problems here: he must draw into the race and he will have an outside post if he does. Still, the due of jockey Antonio Gallardo and trainer Kathleen O’Connell have won at a 37% clip over the last 60 days.

==

Race 6: #3 Break the Silence (4-1)

Trainer G. Ray Trisler is having his best meet in years at Tampa with seven victories. Jockey Fernando De La Cruz is 4-for-6 with Trisler. This gelding is coming off a maiden claiming win and showed speed and might try the same tactics against winners.

Race 9: #3 Bluesville (turf only) (5-2)

Trainer Kathleen O’Connell has had a huge meet and she was forced to run this mare on the main track last time after the race came off the turf. This mare is dropping in class and should be ready for a big effort under jockey Jose Ferrer.

Race 4: #3 Righteous Ride (8-1)

This is a first-time starter by Mach Ride, who has won with 40% of his firsters from a small sample. Trainer G. Ray Trisler has won with 3-of-6 first-timers and there’s a decent work back in February. Might be ready for jockey Victor Lebron.

==

Race 7: #3 Early Entry (4-1)

This colt has won previously at this track and returns off a win at Gulfstream Park, a race that has produced three next out winners. Also has a win at this 7-furlong distance. Jockey Luis Garcia should be able to sit in second flight and pounce in the stretch.

==

Race 8: #4 Extreme Excess (turf only) (10-1)

This 3-year-old filly take on older females for the first time. She finished third on the grass two back and takes a drop in class for trainer Dennis Ward, who is 14% with jockey Brian Pedroza.
