Golden Gate opinions for Sunday, June 12

Preview: It’s closing day of the long meet and the 20-cent Pick 6 must be given away today. The jackpot is more than $1.4 million so you count on it at least doubling or tripling today.

Race 9 – GG
#5 Freddies Dream (4-1): This gelding makes his NoCal debut after running for trainer Mike Puype down south. He ends up in the high percentage Andy Mathis barn and he gets perennial riding champ Russell Baze to ride. Baze is 35% with Mathis.

Race 10 – GG
#10 A Little Luckier (6-1): Jockey JJ Hernandez had his choice of four horses in this race and he sticks with this mare. She’s taking a drop in class for trainer John Martin, who hits with 32% of his claimers and 35% with Hernandez.

Race 12 – GG
#9 Call My Bluff (4-1): This filly is dropping from a straight maiden affair to the maiden claiming ranks. She gave an even effort in a sprint and now tries two turns on the grass. Being by Temple City, a son of Dynaformer, she should like the turf and the distance. Trainer Tim McCanna is 2-for-9 dropping into a maiden claimer and he’s 22% with jockey Frank Alvarado. Also consider using the 7 and 12.

Tampa Bay Downs opinions for Sunday, Dec. 21

Race 1 – TB

#9 Prothoe (9-2)

The outside post is the only obstacle here, but hot jockey Daniel Centeno knows how to get them in the right position. Trainer Barbara McBride has won with this 5-year-old mare before at Tampa.

==

Race 5 – TB

#2 Samka (6-1)

This 4-year-old filly tries dirt for the the first time after running on Polytrack at Woodbine. She showed improved speed last time out and at this distance that could be a key with veteran rider Dean Butler aboard for trainer Aldana Gonzalez.

==

Race  – TB

#9 Mashuk (6-1)

Our Eyes: This 4-year-old colt’s best finish came in his debut on the Arlington Park turf and he’s never been back on the grass since. He is bred to like it —- out of a Dynaformer mare —- and he’s bred to run all day. Lasix is added so look for a better effort.

ACCELERANT (12-1), a 7-year-old gelding, bobbled at the start in his last race, but he has a win over the Del Mar Polytrack and might be coming up to a big race for trainer Donald Warren after a big work earlier this week. Jockey Elvis Trujillo is 2-for-7 with Warren.

==

SIXTH RACE: 1. Dyna Star, 2. Autumn Flower, 3. Conquest Artura. LONG SHOT: Scandal.

DYNA STAR (9-2) closed to finished third at 38-1 in a sprint, but that’s not what the Jerry Hollendorfer-trainee wants to do. She wants to go long on the grass since she is out of a Dynaformer mare. Elvis Trujillo is 24% with Hollendorfer.

NO BARNEYS, a son of Zensational, tries two turns for the first time and being out of a Dynaformer mare, he should have no problem with that. Trainer Peter Miller is 22% with maiden claimers and the gelding has a good work since his race.

SIXTH RACE: 1. Red Barris, 2. Brandon’s Princess, 3. Nueva Fortuna. LONG SHOT: Citizen Jane.

RED BARRIS, a 3-year-old filly, has been facing better and now drops to near the bottom of the claiming ranks. The daughter of The Green Monkey is coming out of a key race, where the top two finishers won next time out.

==

Jockey Joel Rosario is in town to ride in the stakes races so he picks up this mount, SHYSHEISNOT, for trainer John Sadler. This daughter of Tribal Rule has been away since December, but could love the grass since her mother has Dynaformer as her sire.

Updated Santa Anita picks for Saturday, March 15

FIRST RACE: 1. Como Mi Padre (best bet), 2. Distillery, 3. Surfer Moon. LONG SHOT: Bertrane.

Trainer Blake Heap has hit on 3-of-5 when he puts a horse on the turf for the first time. COMO MI PADRE, a son of Borrego, got off to a slow start while finishing second to cheaper. Jockey Victor Espinoza know the colt well and is 2-for-7 with Heap.

==

SECOND RACE: 1. Maximinus, 2. Morning Line Wiz, 3. Happy Idea. LONG SHOT: Johns Journey.

==

THIRD RACE: 1. W. Giles, 2. Heaveneleven, 3. Bart the Barrister. LONG SHOT: Black Tie.

==

FOURTH RACE: 1. Tribal Spy, 2. Ciao Bella Luna, 3. Could Be Trouble. LONG SHOT: Oscillator.

==

FIFTH RACE: 1. Wonderful Union, 2. Brave Act, 3. Boss of Me. LONG SHOT: Hello Frankie.

==

SIXTH RACE: 1. Dynesque, 2. Bird In Love, 3. Star Act. LONG SHOT: Tizmiss.

Trainer John Shirreffs doesn’t usually put in a bunch of flashy drills for first-time starts and such is the case is here. This daughter of Dynaformer has been working nice and steady for her debut. She has the breeding to win first time out going long on the turf and we might get a hint of a price, too.

==

SEVENTH RACE: 1. Let Faith Arise, 2. Iotapa, 3. Fiftyshadesofhay. LONG SHOT: Miss Serendipity (SCRATCHED) new long shot: Stanwyck.

==

EIGHTH RACE: 1. Procurement, 2. Rookie Sensation, 3. Si Sage. LONG SHOT: Di Giorgio.

==

NINTH RACE: 1. Whine for Wine, 2. K Thirty Eight, 3. Natural Stride (SCRACTHED), new 3. Next Book. LONG SHOT: Masochistic.

Santa Anita picks for Thursday, Feb. 13 (updated)

Looks like jockey Kent Desormeaux might be making the move West as he has been named on a few horses this week. He won a race for trainer John Sadler last weekend and almost took the San Antonio with Imperative, finishing second to Blingo but beating odds-on favorite Game On Dude. The former SoCal resident will be a welcome addition to the riding colony.

No major contenders scratched off the program.

==

FIRST RACE: 1. Anabaa Premium, 2. Mensa Heat, 3. Majestic Moment. LONG SHOT: Tuckers Point.

==

SECOND RACE: 1. Macha, 2. Eblouissante, 3. Changethechannel. LONG SHOT: Melanistic.

==

THIRD RACE: 1. Quiet Force, 2. Copper Bay, 3. Boss of Me. LONG SHOT: Crusher.

Trainer Richard Mandella drops QUIET FORCE, a 4-year-old colt, into a claimer for the first time so it could be fire sale time. The son of Dynaformer goes from outside to inside and hopefully that makes the difference around two turns.

==

FOURTH RACE: 1. Holiday N Newport, 2. Clearly Confused, 3. Pebble Beach Baby. LONG SHOT: Funny Gal.

==

FIFTH RACE: 1. Promiscuoussances, 2. Creditcardroulette, 3. Spiced Latte. LONG SHOT: Anita Marie.

==

SIXTH RACE: 1. Sams Blue Cat (best bet), 2. Runaway Que, 3. Lieutenant Seany O. LONG SHOT: Ghost of Harrenhal.

The 3-year-old colt SAMS BLUE CAT tries two turns for the first time and we’re hoping jockey Rafael Bejarano notices there is a lot of speed in this race so he waits until the turn to make his move. Bejarano and trainer Mike Pender are a 32% winning combination.

==

SEVENTH RACE: 1. Tap It Rich, 2. Bayern, 3. Baranof. LONG SHOT: Brother Soldier.

==

EIGHTH RACE: 1. Closet E, 2. Stenoa, 3. Reps and Warrants. LONG SHOT: Samurai Assault.
