Los Alamitos (plus a few other) opinions for Saturday, July 11

LOS ALAMITOS

Race 3: #3 Caliente Cat (3-1): This gelding loves this track and moves from the nighttime programs to the daytime and a bigger purse. Jockey Gary Boag knows this speedball well and trainer Justin Clark is 44% with horses that won their last race.

Race 7: #8 Watdifrenzdzitmake (6-1):  Will have to navigate from an outside post going long, but trainer Phil D’Amato has been pushing a lot of right buttons this year. D’Amato is 29% third off the layoff, which is what this 3-year-old filly is.

BELMONT PARK

Race 8: #8 Midnight Trace (12-1): This gelding broke his maiden first out on the turf and finished third on the grass in an allowance race, but then was tried on Polytrack, since he was an Ontario-bred. He returns to the grass today for trainer Graham Motion, who is 18% with shippers, and we love Scat Daddys on the grass.

==

Race 10: #10 Puparee (5-1):  This filly broke her maiden in her first time on the grass and comes right back against winners for trainer Dominick Schettino, who is 17% with maiden winners right back. Jockey Jose Ortiz rides right back after making a huge move on the turn.

==

GULFSTREAM PARK

Race 8: #4 Hear That Tune (4-1): Throw out this 3-year-old’s last race. He just doesn’t like off tracks. The race one back was sensational while just missing the win. Trainer Stanley Gold is 29% with beaten favorites and he is 3-for-8 with jockey Eddie Castro over the last 60 days.

==

Race 9: #11 Proper Empire (6-1): This 6-year-old moves up in class, but trainer Luis Ramirez is 48% with horses second off the layoff and 29% when a horse is second time in his care. Apprentice Harry Hernandez must work a trip from the outside but look for him to close down the lane.

Santa Anita (plus a few others) opinions for Saturday, June 13

Race 2: #6 Broke the Mold (4-1)

This 5-year-old showed speed against better and now drops to the bottom of the maiden claiming ranks. Trainer Carla Gaines is 40% when dropping a horse two of more class levels and she’s 24% going from a route to a sprint.

==

Race 4: #6 Frandontjudge (turf only) (8-1)

Our Eyes:  Trainer Victor Garcia claimed this filly and moves her up in class. Garcia is 37% from 19 starters first off the claim. Look three races back and this 4-year-old finished a close second at this exact level.

==

Race 9: #1 Unusual Storm (10-1)

She had a prep over the dirt, but this daughter of Unusual Heat (12% first time out on turf) belongs on the grass. Underrated jockey Flavien Prat rides for trainer Gary Mandella.

BELMONT PARK

Race 8: #7 Missy Bay (turf only) (12-1)

Trainer Dominick Schettino has had a good meet so far and this one was in fine form before a layoff. She is moving up in class but Schettino was 21% with NY-breds in the past at this meet and 20% in turf sprints.

==

CHURCHILL DOWNS

Race 2: #5 Muntij (8-1)

Our Eyes:  Trainer Daniel Pietz is 31% with horses running two sprints into their first route race and this son of Daaher is bred to love the added distance. Jockey Marcelino Pedroza has been hot lately with fours wins from his last 14 mounts.

==

GULFSTREAM PARK

Race 7: #5 Ima Tornado (10-1)

Trainer Monte Thomas is 21% with first-time starters and the sire Hello Broadway is 7% first time out. In a field with plenty of first-timers, she’s worth a shot with hot apprentice Harry Hernandez aboard.

==

Race 3: #3 Grand Yodeler (turf only)

==

BELMONT PARK

Race 6: #2 Courageisamajority (turf only)

This 3-year-old filly came with a furious kick down the lane to just miss in her last start at Aqueduct. Jockey John Velazquez stays on for trainer Graham Motion (2-for-7 in the last 60 days) and she has the best late pace ratings.

==

Race 9: #5 Jackson N Leonard (turf only)

Trainer Dominick Schettino hit with a bomb on Wednesday, but this gelding won’t be that price. Sire by Colonel John, this 3-year-old woke up on the grass and should love the added distance in this spot. Look for him to come from off the pace.

==

CHURCHILL DOWNS

Race 8: #6 Teniente Coronel (6-1)

Trainer Tom Amoss has huge numbers in a lot of categories so if we get this morning-line it will be a miracle. Amoss is 38% second off the claim and 40% with horses second time in his barn. Another sired by Colonel John, should like the added distance and jockey James Graham sticks.
