Santa Anita opinions for Thursday, Oct. 5

SECOND RACE: #5 Psycho Dar
This gelding broke his maiden at first asking at Del Mar. Has speed and jockey Evin Roman stays aboard for trainer Steve Miyadi and they are 25 percent together. Also comes out of a key race that has produced two winners so far.

FIFTH RACE: #9 Hawk’s Journey (10-1)
Trainer Ed Moger Jr. is having a good year and brings this filly down from NoCal. This is her first time in a claimer and hot jockey Drayden Van Dyke jumps on. In addition to a win bet I would back wheel her in the exacta.

SEVENTH RACE: #9 Cheekaboomboom (7-2)
This gelding is 2-1-1-0 on the dowhill turf course and jockey Flavien Prat stays aboard. Prat is 25% with trainer Peter Eurton. Play an exacta box with the speedy Mr Vargas (#6, 3-1).

EIGHTH RACE: #10 Decarchy Dawn (3-1)
Trainer Bob Hess Jr. is pulling out all the stop to get this 3-year-old to break his maiden. He is adding blinkers and gelded the horse since his last race. The son of Decarchy comes out of a key Del Mar race that has produced two winners so far and keeps jockey Kent Desormeaux aboard.

Good luck.

Santa Anita early opinions for Sunday, Oct. 4

Race 2: #3 Brolazza (5-1)

Interesting jockey switch here as leading rider Rafael Bejarano jumps on this 2-year-old, which finished third in his debut at 29-1. The son of Decarchy showed something down the lane and now gets an extra furlong.

==

Trainer Craig Dollase drops this 2-year-old filly into a maiden claimer for the first time and he is 33% with that move. She has some good works since her last race and jockey Martin Garcia keeps the mount.

Santa Anita (plus a couple others) opinions for June 28, Sunday

Race 2: #3 Missy Mouse (8-1)

Trainer Eddie Truman has been a master with horses running down the hill this meet. This filly broke her maiden going down the hill and then won a first-level allowance race against Cal-breds. Now she runs in open company at same level and will be flying at the end.

Race 7 – SA

#9 Matter of Luck (6-1)

Trainer Dan Blacker drops this filly into the maiden claiming ranks for the first time, a move he is 3-for-3 with. She is also coming out of a key race where the top three finishers all came back to win.

==

Race 10 – SA

#8 Scuti de Patuti (4-1)

This filly comes out of the same key race the other maiden filly did, too. This daughter of Decarchy finished fifth in that heat and trainer Mike Puype is 21% going from MSW to maiden claiming. Joe Talamo takes the mount.

==

BELMONT PARK

Race 8: #8 Messi (6-1) SCRATCHED OFF THE TURF

Trainer Graham Motion is 32% with horses running for the first time in the U.S. He adds Lasix and jockey John Velazquez to this import.

==

Santa Anita opinions for Friday, Jan. 9

Sorry just too many things on the plate to do full selections today. Be back at it tomorrow. I wasn’t real enthused about the card. There is a carryover in the Pick 6, but believe it will be hit.

Race 3: #3 Perfect Set (4-1)

This 5-year-old gelding was favored at this level one race back at Del Mar. This son of Pleasantly Perfect hasn’t run much on dirt, but his sire liked it. Trainer Art Sherman is 26% on dirt and 24% with horses off a 31-60-day layoff. Jockey Alex Solis stays aboard.

==

Race 8: #3 Kiss At Midnight (7-2)

Trainer Peter Miller is 27% with debuting maiden claimers and Decarchy is a good first out sire. Jockey Elvis Trujillo is 25% with Miller and have to believe this one is live.

Santa Anita selections for Friday, June 6 (updated)

FIRST RACE: 1. Parada, 2. Kid Rollins, 3. Incredible Journey. LONG SHOT: Shandy.

==

SECOND RACE: 1. Sacred Temple, 2. G Q Grace, 3. Condition. LONG SHOT: Nottemptedbyevil.

Trainer Adam Kitchingman sends out SACRED TEMPLE, a first-time starter by Temple City. Kitchingman is 20% with first-time starters and 30% with debuting maiden claimers. He puts speed jockey Edwin Maldonado aboard and they are a 24% combination. G Q GRACE had some decent works coming into his career debut and didn’t show a thing. Now takes a class drop and could be ready to go at a price.

==

THIRD RACE: 1. Mindfully, 2. Papa’s Dancing, 3. Warren’s Jen Fizz. LONG SHOT: Cee’s Tizzy Belle (SCRATCHED). New long shot: Peggy Sue’s Loose.

==

FOURTH RACE: 1. Rock Me Baby, 2. Super Ninety Nine, 3. Seeking the Sherif. LONG SHOT: Forward March.

This is strictly a pace play. There is a ton of speed in here and ROCK ME BABY looks like the lone closer.

==

FIFTH RACE: 1. Susan B Good, 2. Warren’s Cracker, 3. Jennyway U Want It. LONG SHOT: Three Blondes.

==

SIXTH RACE: 1. Watch It Buster (best bet), 2. Voluntary, 3. Dark Timbers. LONG SHOT: Vite Tribal Reign. NEW PICKS: 1. Voluntary, 2. Dark Timbers, 3. Destino. LONG SHOT: Vite Tribal Reign.

This isn’t the toughest bunch in the world (maiden claimers $20,000) so why not go with a first-timer by Decarchy named WATCH IT BUSTER. Trainer Mike Puype is 20% with debuting maiden claimers. This 3-year-old gelding has been working well at Los Alamitos and jockey Joe Talamo gets on. Big warning here: this colt is entered back on Sunday in a Cal-bred maiden special weight. He’s listed at 6-5 on Friday’s morning-line. I’m thinking with the quick works, Puype doesn’t want to lose him yet and will scratch him to run on Sunday. NOTE: As suspected, WATCH IT BUSTER scratched this morning.

==

SEVENTH RACE: 1. Vibrato Jazz, 2. Warren’s Cliff S., 3. Tiznow Or Then. LONG SHOT: Fighting On.

==

EIGHTH RACE: 1. Antianco, 2. Onebadshenanigan, 3. Off the Deep End. LONG SHOT: Philanderer.
