Santa Anita opinions for Friday, June 10 (Plus Belmont Park stakes)

Preview: Just two turf races on the card and the rails at 30 feet so speed will likely dominate. Jockeys to avoid on the grass right now are Drayden Van Dyke (1-for-25), Edwin Maldonado (1-28) and Martin Garcia (0-19). We had two winners and third-place horse on Thursday.

Race 3 – SA
#3 Hayley’s Comment: Just gave an even effort in her debut and now go two turns. Red-hot Flavien Prat takes over in the saddle and trainer Kristin Mulhall is 21% going from sprint to route.

Race 5 – SA
#8 Aqua Frio: Trainer Blaine Wright has a couple of good works into this son of Uncle Mo, who gets 20% first time out winners. Jockey Tyler Baze jumps on and is 30% with Wright.

Race 8 – SA
#5 Tuscan Sun: It won’t take a world-beater to wins this lowest level maiden claimer so why not go with a first-timer. Cyclotron gets 20% first-time out winners and trainer Karen Headley is 31% with maiden claimers and 25% with jockey Edwin Maldonado.

Santa Anita opinions for Friday, March 4

: There doesn’t appear to be much value on the card early so look to the end of the card.

                                

Race 6 – SA        

#4 Devils Informer (8-1) 

Broke his maiden at Del Mar at first asking, but hasn’t been seen since. Has been moved from trainer Mike Puype to Phil D’Amato, who is 28% with horses off a 180-plus-day layoff. Jockey Edwin Maldonado jumps on and he is 45% with D’Amato at Santa Anita.

                   

Race 7 – SA

#1 Chocolatier (5-1) (turf only)

Was last seen on the East Coast for trainer Chad Brown. Now has been moved to trainer Blaine Wright, who is 20% with horses off a 61-180-day layoff. This mare has speed, which has done very well on this turf course. Jockey Tyler Baze is 2-for-4 with Wright at Santa Anita.

 Trainer Blaine Wright claimed this one off John Sadler and appears to be co-owner. Wright is 38% first off the claim and he’s 45% with jockey Tyler Baze.

Jockey Corey Nakatani, who is a whiz on this turf course, decides to ride this filly back after a sixth-place effort. He must think she has some talent the Nakatani is 21% at Del Mar with trainer Eric Kruljac, who is 47% with second-time turfers.

 “Eikleberry off” has become a play recently as the jockey isn’t riding locally anymore and a couple of bombs have come in over the last week with new jockeys aboard. Such is the case here as Santiago Gonzalez jumps back on for trainer Mark Glatt and they are a 23% combination.

#5 Never Give In (8-1): This gelding faced winners for the first time in his last race and finished third. Trainer Kathleen O’Connell is 20% with sprinters and she stretches this one out to 7 furlongs.

#5 Expect Some Dreams (20-1): This 2-year-old filly finished third at this level at 7-1 for trainer Jane Cibelli, cuts back in distance and gains services of Antonio Gallardo, the Tampa riding champ. I just don’t get this morning-line.

#6 Paddy O’Wagon (turf only) (7-2): The son of Paddy O’Prado, this 2-year-old makes his South Florida debut off a couple of decent races at Laurel and Monmouth Park. Trainer Jane Cibelli and jockey Antonio Gallardo team up again and they are 30% together.

For the second time in two days trainer Peter Miller gets a horse from the New Mexico circuit to run at Santa Anita. This 3-year-old, CHATTERING CLASS, is dropping into a maiden claimer for the first time and showed speed last time out. Miller is 38% when going from MSW to a maiden claimer and 27% with jockey Victor Espinoza.

JOVITA’S TUFFY, a 4-year-old gelding, won in his only appearance on the Santa Anita for trainer Mike Mitchell. Wright claimed him for $12.500 and ran him twice at Golden Gate. He returns to what be his favorite surface and gets red-hot apprentice Drayden Van Dyke to ride.
