Tampa Bay Downs opinions for Friday, March 17

Race 2 – Tam
#1 What’s Up J P (10-1) ****
Our Eyes: Tough to explain this gelding’s last other than it was first off the layoff and a prep to go longer like he is doing today. Jockey Ronnie Allen Jr. has has won two races for trainer Luis Dominguez at the meet. Look for improvement today.
Jeff’s Playbook: 4 units to win, 5 units to place and 6 units to show. EXBX 7-1.

Race 4 – Tam
#7 Trismen (3-1) TURF ONLY ****
Our Eyes: Was overmatched in first try against winners and now takes a class drop. Has speed so if Pablo Morales can walk the dog on the front end, might have more left at the end..
Jeff’s Playbook: 4 units to win, 5 units to place and 6 units to show. EX 7 with 3 and 4.

Race 7 – Tam
#1 Good Time Rambles (7-2) ****
Our Eyes: Trainer Benny Feliciano is 37% with horses third off the layoff and this one has speed from the inside while taking a slight drop in class.
Jeff’s Playbook: 4 units to win, 5 units to place and 6 units to show.

Race 8 – Tam
#4 High Society (12-1) TURF ONLY ****
Our Eyes: Trainer Ashlee Brnjas has come down from Canada firing, winning 18% of her entries. This gelding showed good turf form at Fort Erie and gets back on the grass here. Brnjas is 35% when going from dirt to turf.
Jeff’s Playbook: 4 units to win, 5 units to place and 6 units to show. EXBX 4-5-9.

Race 10 – Tam
#6 Of Horse I’ll Win (8-1) TURF ONLY ****
Our Eyes: This filly finished fifth last time AGAINST THE BOYS so her connections wanted to get her on the grass pretty bad. The sire Pure Prize wins with 13% of his turf runners and veteran jockey Gary Boulanger rides.
Jeff’s Playbook: 4 units to win, 5 units to place and 6 units to show.

Good luck.

Tampa Bay Downs opinions for Saturday, Nov. 26 (Opening day)

Preview: The start of a new meet at Tampa Bay Downs and there is one big change to watch: three-time leading jockey Antonio Gallardo is riding in New York this winter so there will be a new top dog. Veterans Daniel Centeno (not riding today), Ronnie Allen Jr., Dean Butler and Fernando De La Criz bare watching. Newcomers to watch are Angel Cruz plus Edwin Gonzalez and Albin Jimenez. The latter two have agent Mike Moran, who was Gallardo’s agent so he has the connections. Also keep track of where the winning horses last ran because horses come from all over for this meet.

Race 4: #7 Supermans Cape (8-1): This colt has been away for more than a year and if there is any trainer can get them ready off such a layoff it’s Larry Rivelli, who is 27% with horses off a 90-plus day layoff. A son of Cape Blanco, he should enjoy the turf.

Race 6: #3 Huntstown (8-1): This gelding had a second over this turf course earlier this year and fits nicely with this group. Ran mainly against Indiana-breds this summer, but no worries about that. He has the best late pace rating from Brisnet.

Race 7: #2 Bluegrass Kid (6-1): This gelding has won over the track before and loves the 6-furlong distance with four wins. Has the top early pace rating and trainer Benny Feliciano is 29% with shippers. On top of that comes out of a key race which has produced two next out winners.

Race 11: #2 Nightbar (4-1): We’ve already extolled the virtues of trainer Larry Rivelli off a long layoff. Now add in a horse that won his first two races over this track plus the fact that the gelding comes out of a race in March that produced three next out winners.

Good luck

Tampa Bay Downs opinions for Saturday, April 16

Race 1: #4 Fifth Street (5-2): This gelding has done a lot of winning at Tampa, including once this meet. Now trainer Benny Feliciano drops him in class plus goes from route to sprint, a move he is 32% with.

Race 5: #6 Commissionette (6-1) (turf only): Trainer Ben Colebrook has been trying to get this filly on the grass in her last two races, but the rain gods have interfered. They might again today, but if they don’t Colebrook is 21% going from dirt to turf.

Race 9: #2 Grandpa’s Star (9-2): This filly is running her second race off more than a year away and trainer Anthony Granitz, who is good with horses going two turns, decides to get leading rider Antonio Gallardo.

Race 6: #3 Queen Fiddle (turf only) (6-1)

This filly’s best race was on the turf and she returns to the green here for trainer Anthony Pecoraro, who is 30% with first-time Lasix. She’s a prep so expect a big effort with Ramon Feliciano aboard.

==

Los Alamitos RC and Tampa Bay Downs opinions for

LRC Preview: Finally, a little bit of meat on the bone as the late Pick Four should pay a good price with larger fields than we have been getting. Jockeys Tyler Baze and Fernando Perez doubled on Thursday.

==

Race 3: #6 Sweeter Thancandy (4-1)

This 7 furlongs should hit this filly right between the eyes as she has been going further and been facing tougher. Trainer Mark Glatt is 31% dropping a horse two or more class levels. Plus leading jockey Santiago Gonzalez jumps on and he is 23% with Glatt.

==

Race 7: #7 Tough It Out (4-1)

Looks like a wide open Cal-bred stakes race and we’ll go with this gelding, who beat maidens last time going two turns on the turf. Trainer Phil D’Amato is good at placing his horses and must have been impressed with that last effort and leading jockey Santiago Gonzalez keeps the mount.

==

Race 8: #2 Street Fancy (5-1)

This 2-year-old showed improvement despite finishing third in a non-graded stakes at Del Mar. Now she gets to go two turns and should improve even more as she is sired by Street Sense out of a Cat Thief mare. Trainer Phil D’Amato is 24% going sprint to route and jockey Mike Smith stays on.

==

Tampa Bay Downs Preview: Not the best weekend card we’ve seen at this track, but seems like some chances for prices. Dale Bennett (3 for 9) and Dennis Ward (3 for 16) lead the training standings. Conversely, Ian Hemingway is 0 for 10, shipping mostly in from Gulfstream Park and GP West.

 ==

Race 3: #4 Innovative Idea (6-1)

This filly makes her turf debut and if the race should be washed off the turf, would make her a 5-star play on a wet track. She has good speed and has been working lights out. Jockey Fernando De La Cruz is 26% with trainer Eoin Harty.

==

Race 8: #6 Aloha Daddy (5-2)

Our Eyes: Trainer Benny Feliciano claimed this gelding last time out and he is 45% first off the claim. The 5-year-old has a 3-0-1-1 record over the track and the trainer puts his son aboard. They are a 38% combination at Tampa.
