Santa Anita opinions for Friday, May 8

Race 1: #5 Gosofar (3-1)

Cost $100K at auction earlier this year and last work was a good one. Trainer Adam Kitchingman is 20% with first-time starters and the sire Aragorn is 12% first time out.

==

Race 5: #1 Elimination Round (5-1)

This 4-year-old filly showed improvement in her second start, and first down the hill. Trainer Eric Kruljac is an amazing 53% (8-for-15) second time on the grass.

==

Race 8: #9 Ipray (3-1)

This 3-year-old filly finished third in her career debut despite a poor start. With a better start for red-hot trainer Phil D’Amato it might put her in the winner’s circle on the class drop. D’Amato and jockey Tiago Pereira are 35% the last two years at Santa Anita.

SEVENTH RACE: 1. Musical Arts, 2. Brown Is Beige, 3. Eltoninadress. LONG SHOT: Second Time.

Trainer Ron Ellis gets MUSICAL ARTS, a 5-year-old mare, back in his barn after spending some time on the Northern California circuit. Ellis is 56% with horses coming off a 61-180-day layoff from 18 starters so he knows how to get them ready. Ellis also teams up with jockey Edwin Maldonado and they are a 28% proposition.

==

EIGHTH RACE: 1. Hobbits Hero, 2. Red N Black Attack, 3. Sheer Talent. LONG SHOT: Toomuchinformation.

HOBBITS HERO, a son of Aragorn, has been doing everything except what he was bred to do: sprint on the grass. The 3-year-old gelding gets a shot to do that for trainer Jeff Mullins and jockey Tyler Baze. He has been off for two months and takes a drop in class.

==

NINTH RACE: 1. Secret Sorority, 2. Fast Moka Too, 3. Janes Ship. LONG SHOT: Hot Outta the Oven.
