Tampa Bay Downs opinions for Saturday, April 16

Race 1: #4 Fifth Street (5-2): This gelding has done a lot of winning at Tampa, including once this meet. Now trainer Benny Feliciano drops him in class plus goes from route to sprint, a move he is 32% with.

Race 5: #6 Commissionette (6-1) (turf only): Trainer Ben Colebrook has been trying to get this filly on the grass in her last two races, but the rain gods have interfered. They might again today, but if they don’t Colebrook is 21% going from dirt to turf.

Race 9: #2 Grandpa’s Star (9-2): This filly is running her second race off more than a year away and trainer Anthony Granitz, who is good with horses going two turns, decides to get leading rider Antonio Gallardo.

Tampa Bay Downs opinions for Sunday, Feb. 21

Preview: Not a bad card. The smallest field is in the first with just seven horses. Trainer Tom Proctor has won 3 of his last 9 starters while his usual jockey Brian Pedroza is 3 for his last 10 starts. Big long shots on Friday’s card. Let’s hope it continues.

==

Race 1: #6 Misty Steps (15-1)

 Trainer Anthony Granitz has done well here in the last in dirt route races. This filly is trying two turns for the first time in a long time, but Granitz is 14% going sprint to route. This 4-year-old has Brisnet’s best late pace rating.

==

Race 6: #2 Glencoe Girl (turf only) (12-1)

Trainer Graham Motion tried to get this filly on the turf first time out but it was taken off and she still finished third on the dirt. The race is under her belt and now Motion adds Lasix and he’s 23% first time Lasix. The sire Giant’s Causeway is 9% first time turf.

==

Race 7: #4 Jersey Blue Giant (6-1)

This gelding has won 5 of 7 on the main tack here. Trainer Joe Woodard is 25% third off the layoff and jockey Angel Serpa keeps the mount.

==

Race 8: #6 Captain Kitten (turf only) (12-1)

This 3-year-old broke his maiden at first asking on the turf at Delaware Park. Trainer Steve Epley Jr. brings him down for his first start of 2016 and he is 27% with horses off a 90-plus day layoff and he gets good turf jockey Daniel Centeno.

Tampa Bay Downs opinions for Sunday, March 8

Race 7: #6 Prince Vincenzo (7-2)

This 3-year-old broke his maiden over this turf course before running on the dirt at Ocala. He returns to the grass here for trainer Kathleen O’Connell and jockey Antonio Gallardo, who are a 26% proposition.

==

Race 9: #8 Federal Agent (7-2)

This gelding just missed at this level in his Tampa debut last time. He’s back in three weeks looking for come from off the pace for trainer Anthony Granitz and jockey Brian Pedroza.

Tampa Bay Downs opinions for Friday, Feb. 20

Race 3: #3 Lord of Love (turf only) (8-1)

This gelding was facing tougher in New York, even if it was state breds. Finished sixth in Tampa debut off two-month layoff for trainer Anthony Granitz. Look for better effort for jockey Fernando De La Cruz in this spot.

==

Race 5: #2 Black Eagle (turf only) (12-1)

Trainer Graham Motion is 26% first time Lasix and 16% first time turf and that’s what we have with this son of Tapit out of a War Chant mare. Worth a shot at the price.

Race 6: #10 Heir to Glory (turf only) (4-1)

This filly has run two OK races on the turf elsewhere and after a prep on the dirt here she might be ready to go for trainer Anthony Granitz. Likes to press the pace and jockey Mike Allen will need to get her over from the outside.

==

Race 9: #5 Sonofachub (turf only) (12-1)

This 4-year-old gelding is 2-for-2 on turf but was miscast last time on dirt. Returns to favorite surface and has win over the course at this meet. The price is right with leading jockey Antonio Gallardo.

Tampa Bay Downs opinions for Thursday, Feb. 12

Race 2: #2 Thunder Lord (4-1)

This gelding will be moving up in class looking to make it two wins in a row for trainer Jamie Ness. The 8-year-old has a win and two seconds in four tries going 7 furlongs and cuts back in distance for leading jockey Antonio Gallardo.

==

Race 7: #6 Chief Courage (turf only) (4-1)

This 3-year-old gelding takes the huge drop from MSW to maiden claiming for trainer Anthony Granitz, who is 15% with the move. The son of Chief Seattle closed ground late in his turf debut and now gets leading rider Antonio Gallardo, who will put him in the right spot.

Tampa Bay Downs opinions for Saturday, Jan. 31

Race 2: #5 Alabaster (5-1)

Our Eyes: Not sure if this race shouldn’t be in New York with trainers like McLaughlin, Pletcher and Zito in here, but we’re going to trainer Eoin Harty and this 3-year-old colt. The son of Medaglia d’Oro has a race over the track and switches to leading jockey Antonio Gallardo, who is 4-for-9 with Harty.

==

Race 3: #3 Senor Grits (2-1)

Our Eyes: This son of Elusive Quality drops out of a stakes effort at Laurel and that race has produced FIVE next out winners. Trainer Ian Wilkes has been working this 3-year-old at Palm Meadows and jockey Julien Leparoux jumps on.

==

Race 6: #11 Prize Native (15-1)

Our Eyes: The key will be if this 4-year-old gets in the race as he is on the also-eligible list. That being said trainer Anthony Granitz is 31% with stretchouts at Tampa. This gelding drops in class and jockey Ademar Santos must work out a trip from the outside.

Tampa Bay Downs opinions for Friday, Dec. 19

Race 2: #6 Kholberg (12-1)

Has been given two months off and trainer Anthony Pecoraro is 31% with horses off a layoff of 61-180 days. Jockey Brian Pedroza rode this 2-year-old at Delaware Park and the gelding has a good work over the surface.

==

Race 6: #3 Annamonarchos (turf only) (5-1)

This 4-year-old filly has a good third over the turf course for trainer Anthony Granitz. Needs to get into the race a little sooner and maybe that will happen with jockey Fernando De La Cruz, who rode her to her last win at Indiana Downs.
