12TH RACE: 1. #15 Rock Your World, 2. #8 Medina Spirit, 3. #9 Hot Rod Charlie, 4. #14 Essential Quality. LONG SHOT: #7 Mandaloun. In most years, there is a horse I love in this race, come hell or high water, but that’s not the case this time. Despite Essential Quality (2-1) being a pretty big favorite, I just think this is a wide open race. I’m sticking to the motto of #bestiswest. Rock Your World (5-1) freaked in the Santa Anita Derby first time on the dirt and wired the field. There isn’t a lot of speed in today’s race and I think new jockey Joel Rosario will try to go to the front again. Medina Spirit (15-1) is trained by Bob Baffert, need we say more? This colt has been Baffert’s “B” horse this spring and he runs hard every time. I think this one also might try to go to the front. Hot Rod Charlie (8-1) is from the Doug O’Neill barn and was spectacular in the Louisiana Derby. Rosario jumps off and Flavien Prat takes over. Essential Quality is undefeated but I’m worried that last win might have taken something out of him. We’ll see.
Good luck. Stay safe.

First time commenter here. Nice handicapping in the Derby. I hope you had that juicy exacta. Your second selection and your longshot for $500 bucks!
Your picks were on point for the kentucky derby card yesterday…could have hit the pick6 with your picks .too bad I’m just looking at my emails…DAMN ME
Jeff, great handicapping not just Derby Day but about everyday. I have been playing the southern California circuit for 30 years plus and found your handicapping site. I watch it and am amazed how you pick the horses. The bad thing is I always screw up and pick the wrong horse just like Sat. If I would have boxed your Derby picks for the tri and super, it would have been a nice hit. Can you tell me how you cap the races? You are very good!! Thanks for posting your picks!!
