Horse racing

Jeff Nahill’s Del Mar opinions for Thursday, Nov. 26 (Thanksgiving, first post 11 am.)

Notable: Well that was a nice little streak last weekend as one of my top three horses won 19 straight races and then the bombs started coming in. I say if trainers Knapp and Gomez win races, I’m going to lose. Good for you if you had those guys.Couple of interesting stats I came across, trainer Richard Mandella is having a fabulous meet. He is 15-7-2-4 overall and on the turf he is 8-4-2-2. He hasn’t been out of the money on the grass.Speaking of grass, leading jockey Abel Cedillo is 36-7-5-2 but a lot of those wins came when Flavien Prat and Umberto Rispoli were at the Breeders’ Cup. Since coming back from Kentucky, Prat (24-7-5-3) and Rispoli (32-6-8-4) are a combined 56-13-13-7 on the turf. You want to avoid Tiago Pereira (30-1-2-3), Alexis Centeno (18-0-1-1) and Victor Espinsoza (9-0-0-1) on the green stuff. On the dirt, Cedillo leads the way with a 41-11-5-5 mark. Try to avoid Drayden Van Dyke (15-1-4-2), Mario Gutierrez (1 for 20) and Jose Valdivia Jr. (0 for 10) on the main track.
