Santa Anita opinion for Friday, Jan. 31

Note: Sorry have been under the weather, again. Just had time to do this first race for Friday.

FIRST RACE: 1. Fellow Citizen, 2. Jetovator, 3. A Man’s Man. LONG SHOT: Siberian Tigah.
This is a really interesting maiden turf sprint. FELLOW CITIZEN is coming off an 18-month layoff for Peter Miller, who is a magician with turf sprinters. Miller is 17% off a 90-plus-day layoff and 14% first time turf. JETOVATOR is a career maiden with a 9-0-3-3 mark but does get back to jockey Flavien Prat. FELLOW CITIZEN gets a HUGE jock switch to Joel Rosario, but the inside on the turf isn’t really where you want to be. That be said Rosario may just gun and be gone. SIBERIAN TIGAH goes for low profile trainer Rafael Becerra, who is 25% with first-time starters. This one has a couple of good works showing but the sire has yet to produce a winner. WATCH THE DIP is from the Doug O’Neill/Reddam Racing tandem which likes to win turf sprints. O’Neill’s one weakness: 5% debuts on the turf. TRENDING HIGHER is from the Carla Gaines barn. She is 1 for 76 with first-timers and 1 for 36 with debut turf. Has good pedigree and a decent work tab but not with my money.

SECOND RACE: 1. Mogolain Humor, 2. Rizzi’s Honors, 3. Busy Paynter. LONG SHOT: No Wine Untasted.

Good luck.
