Preview: The Del Mar riding title looks like it will come down to a three-man race between Prat (16 winners), Van Dyke (15) and Tyler Baze (12). Espinoza (10) may or may not be in the mix depending on whether he appeals his suspension.
Prat, Van Dyke and Baze all had six winners last week and Prat missed a day while riding in the West Virginia Derby at Mountaineer Park.
Van Dyke (9-for-26) leads all riders on the main track with Baze right behind at 8-for-39. Prat leads on the grass, winning 25 percent of his mounts (9-for-36) and Van Dyke is 6-for-30 on the green.
Jockey Mario Gutierrez had a truly horrible week going 1-for-18 overall.
On the dirt, there are several jockeys having trouble figuring out how the track is playing. Evin Roman is 1-for-29 while Martin Pedroza is 0-for-30 and apprentice Edgar Payeras is 0-for-20.
On the grass, Joe Talamo still has a goose egg (0-for-26) as does Stewart Elliott (0-for-20) and Kent Desormeaux is a dreadful 1-for-30.
On the training side, Peter Miller pulled to the front with a 3-for-13 week. Miller has an all-around barn this year with a 7-for-24 mark on the dirt and 6-for-25 effort on the grass.
Most of the other leading trainers had poor weeks as Jerry Hollendorfer was 0-for-8, Phil D’Amato 1-for-14 and Sadler 1-for-6.
Overall several trainers on struggling on the dirt: Keith Desormeaux (1-17), Bob Hess Jr. (1-14), Mark Glatt (1-13), Vladimir Cerin (0-13), David Jacobson (0-12) and Gary Sherlock (0-10).
On the grass, Hollendorfer (1-11), James Cassidy (0-14), Hess (0-9) and Glatt (1-12) are having a hard time.
