Strictly a pedigree play in today’s eighth race. Trainer Mick Ruis bred, owns and trains No. 8 Eighty Proof (12-1). The gelding appears to be a speedy sort with his father, Coil, out of an Idiot Proof mare, which is all speed. Ruis is 43% the last couple of years at Del Mar with 2-year-olds (remember Bolt d’Oro) so he can get a first-timer ready.
