Preview: Hope some of you beat Gigantis on Sunday at 17-1. As for today, not a good card and really not sure what Santa Anita will do with the turf races after the last time it rained. My guess is they will stay on the grass, but who knows with these guys.
Race 1 – SA
#1 D Day Dude (9-2) TURF ONLY ****
Our Eyes: I think this gelding has frustrated trainer Phil D’Amato as he drops the 5-year-old into a claimer for the first time. D’Amato is 21% going dirt to turf and 29% first time in a claimer plus he’s 23% with jockey Stewart Elliott.
Jeff’s Playbook: 4 units to win. EX 5-6-7 with 1.
Race 3 – SA
#9 Papa Royale (4-1) ****
Our Eyes: This gelding is coming out of a race where three of the first four runners have come back to won. He also has a class edge and late kick. Hitters Park is coming out of the same race so we’ll play an exacta box with those two.
Jeff’s Playbook: 4 units to win, 5 units to place and 6 units to show. EXBX 9-2.
Race 4 – SA
#5 Pavelski (4-1) TURF ONLY ****
Our Eyes: D’Amato holds the cards here again with this son of Street Boss. Turns him back in distance and goes dirt to turf. On top of that, the 3-year-old is coming out of a race where the second and third place finishers have come back to win. Also have to play an all-hockey exacta box with Kopitar, who is also trained by D’Amato.
Jeff’s Playbook: 4 units to win, 5 units to place and 6 units to show. EXBX 5-6.
Good luck.
