Horse racing, Santa Anita

Santa Anita opinions for Saturday, March 11 (Updated)

Note: Hope someone bet the three winners I gave out on Friday.
Race 2 – SA
 #5 Marvelous Kaos (20-1) TURF ONLY ****
Our Eyes: Colt ran once last year and was put away with an injury probably. Returns bigger and better, Has been working good and huge jockey change from G. Ercegovic to Joe Talamo.
Jeff’s  Playbook: 4 units to win, 5 units to place and 6 units to show.

Race 4 – SA
 #11 Southern Mischief (4-1) ****
Our Eyes: First-timer from the Bob Baffert barn has been working well enough and gets money jock Mike Smith, who is 42% with Baffert. Nuff said..
Jeff’s  Playbook: 4 units to win, 5 units to place and 6 units to show.
Race 6 – SA
#11 Ava Forty Seven (8-1) TURF ONLY ****
Our Eyes: Filly first time in the Phil D’Amato, who is 23% with this kind. Ran at Lone Star Park. D’Amato puts blinkers on and jockey Flavien Prat rides.
Jeff’s  Playbook: 4 units to win, 5 units to place and 6 units to show.

Race 7 – SA
#10 Bird Orr Brady (6-1) ****
Our Eyes: First-time starter from the Doug O’Neill barn and the .gelding has been work well. The sire Kantharos is 21% with first-timers.
Jeff’s  Playbook: 4 units to win, 5 units to place and 6 units to show.

Race 11 – SA
#2 Go On Mary (10-1) TURF ONLY ****
Our Eyes: Filly ran well in her turf debut down the hill and now goes around two turns for the first time. Jockey Javier Castellano, who is in town to ride in the Big Cap, jumps on for O’Neill.
Jeff’s  Playbook: 4 units to win, 5 units to place and 6 units to show.

GRADED STAKES RACES

Race 5 (Grade II San Felipe): 1. #5 Gormley (9-5), 2. #6 Iliad (5-2), 3. #4 Mastery (6-5). Long shot: #3 Ann Arbor Eddie (8-1).

Don’t understand why Gormley isn’t the morning-line favorite since he hasn’t lost to a West Coast-based horse yet. His only defeat came in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile.

Race 8 (Grade I Triple Bend): 1. #4 Silent Bird (4-1), 2. #5 Masochistic (Even), 3. #3 Kobe’s Back (5-2). Long shot: #7 Conquest Cobra (10-1).
Silent Bird is a perfect 4-for-4 on this track and make his graded stakes debut. Masochistic will be on the lead and will be tough to catch.

Race 9 (Grade I Frank E. Kilroe Mile): 1. #6 Conquest Enforcer (7-2), 2. #1 Bal a Bali (8-1), 3. #5 Ring Weekend (4-1). Long shot: #4 Dortmund (4-1).
Fascinating part of this race is Dortmund’s Debut in Art Sherman barn (taken away from Bob Baffert) and the 5-year-old making his turf debut. Flavien Prat rides this turf course like he owns it and he does. That’s reason to put Conquest Enforcer on top.

Race 10 (Grade I Santa Anita Handicap): 1. #1 Midnight Storm (8-5), 2. #6 Follow Me Crev (8-1), 3. #3 Shaman Ghost (2-1). Long shot: #7 Twentytwentyvision (12-1).
Trainer Phil D’Amato has turn this once turf speedster into a speedy dirt horse. Come and catch him. Follow Me Crev is 4-for-8 over the track and Shaman Ghost just finished second to Arrogate in the Pegasus at Gulfstream Park.

Good luck.
