Horse racing, Santa Anita

Santa Anita opinions for Thursday, March 9

Race 2 – SA
#2 Farhaan (8-1) TURF ONLY ****
Our Eyes: This 8-year-old has run on East Coast but now shows up in the Phil D’Amato barn, which is 23% with first-timers in the barn. Overmatched in stakes races last year and starts in an allowance race here. D’Amato is 22% with horses off a 90-plus day layoff.
Jeff’s Playbook: 4 units to win, 5 units to place and 6 units to show.

Race 5 – SA
#8 Force (8-1) TURF ONLY ****
Our Eyes: Just forget the last because trainer Edward Freeman just wanted to get a race in him. Freeman is 30% second time with a starter. Was a step slow at start for jockey Tyler Baze, who keeps the mount.
Jeff’s Playbook: 4 units to win, 5 units to place and 6 units to show.

Race 8 – SA
#9 My Aunt Tillie (6-1) TURF ONLY ****
Our Eyes: Just a huge jockey switch from apprentice Fuentes to turf maven Flavien Prat. Stretches out for trainer Mike Puype, who is 26% with Prat and 17% second off the layoff.
Jeff’s Playbook: 4 units to win, 5 units to place and 6 units to show.

Good luck.
