Horse racing, Tampa Bay Downs

Tampa Bay Downs opinions for Wednesday, March 1

Preview: Tampa goes back to a 4-day racing week and not a minute too soon. No more Thursday racing. In the jockey standings, Daniel Centeno continues to lead overall on the dirt. He is hitting 25% on the dirt with 40 winners followed by Pablo Morales (35-142) and Edwin Gonzalez (33-142). Jockeys to avoid might be Samy Camacho (5%, 7-135), Scott Speith (5%, 6-123) and Diego Gomez (6%, 4-67).

Race 3 – Tam
#8 La Soul (8-1) TURF ONLY ****
Our Eyes: This filly ran an OK third on the main track last time but Canadian trainer Roger Attfield wanted to run her on the turf. He gets his chance here. Attfield is 31% the second time a horse goes two turns. Little used Tyler Pizarro is aboard.
Jeff’s Playbook: 4 units to win, 5 units to place and 6 units to show.

Race 5 – Tam
#9 My Solitude (7-2) TURF ONLY ****
Our Eyes: Drops into a maiden claimer for the first time and trainer John Vinson is 3-for-5 when he does that. Jesus Castanon rides and he’s 3-for-4 at the meet with Vinson. The sire gets 13% turf winners overall.
Jeff’s Playbook: 4 units to win, 5 units to place and 6 units to show.

Race 7 – Tam
#7 I Zoom (10-1) ****
Our Eyes: Looking for her first win of the meet, but she has won here in the past. Trainer Darien Rodriguez is 43% third off the layoff. Takes a drop in class and it looks like a wide open race.
Jeff’s Playbook: 4 units to win, 5 units to place and 6 units to show. EXBX 7-1-10.

Race 8 – Tam
#7 Coach Moore (10-1) TURF ONLY ****
Our Eyes: Moves up after a good third on the dirt and now tries the grass for the first time against winners. Trainer Forrest Kaelin is 24% with horses off a 46-90-day layoff.
Jeff’s Playbook: 4 units to win, 5 units to place and 6 units to show. EXBX 7-3.
