Santa Anita opinions for Saturday, Jan. 28

Race 3: #4 Table for Three (5-2): Kind of surprised that trainer Phil D’Amato didn’t wait for a grass race after the runner-up effort last time but with the weather it appears he took the first Cal-bred maiden race he found. D’Amato is 10 for 20 going sprint-route-sprint and Joe Talamo stays aboard.

Race 6: Jimmy Bouncer (5-1): This gelding has won two of three on the Santa Anita dirt and is a perfect 3-for-3 at this 6-furlong distance. Look for jockey Mario Gutierrez to send from the gate.

Race 7: #1 Ashleyluvssugar (8-5) (turf only): This gelding has been running in graded stakes events like the Breeders’ Cup Turf and now returns to the Cal-bred ranks. Flavien Prat takes over for the recovering from surgery Gary Stevens. Look for Prat to try and control the pace up front.

Race 10: #1 Pavelski (8-1) (turf only): Trainer Phil D’Amato is 23% with horses going a route of ground for the first time. This colt was sired by Street Boss, who is 18% with horses the first time on the grass and the circuit’s best grass rider, Prat, stays aboard. This 3-year-old is also coming out of a key race.
