Horse racing, Santa Anita

Santa Anita opinions for Thursday, Jan. 26

Preview: Thank God the rain is over the forecast is clear for at least the next two racing weeks. No grass racing today as the course is still drying out. However, why there is no grass racing on Friday is beyond me. So today’s card isn’t the best. I’d wait for the late Pick Four sequence.

Race 4 – SA
#3 Rally Back (6-1) ****
Our Eyes: Just missed in her first try vs. winners on opening day. Jockey Chantal Sutherland lost the right reign which might have contributed to the defeat, but she is back on. Sutherland is 3-for-9 riding for trainer Blake Heap.
Jeff’s Playbook: 4 units to win. Exacta back wheel all on top of Rally Back.

Race 7 – SA
#1 Papa Mambo (9-2) ****
Our Eyes: This mare has won twice over this track and has early speed to stay close throughout. Norberto Arroyo takes over the reins.
Jeff’s Playbook: 4 units to win, 5 units to place and 6 units to show.

Race 8 – SA
#8 Moments Notiz (6-1) ****
Our Eyes: Trainer Bill Spawr places his horses in the right spot. He’s 6-for-11 at the meet and this gelding takes a class drop. Spawr is 22% with horses off a 46 to 90-day layoff.
Jeff’s Playbook: 4 units to win, 5 units to place and 6 units to show.

Good luck.
