Horse racing, Tampa Bay Downs

Tampa Bay Downs opinions for Wednesday, Jan. 11

Preview: Feeling better after last week so back to try and pick some winners. There was lots of chalk (favorites) flying on Saturday and Sunday as thee were only four double-digit winners. Jockey Daniel Centeno won five of the last 10 races run over the weekend while Edwin Gonzalez had a natural hat trick on Saturday and won for a fourth time on Sunday.

Race 1 – Tam
#4 Sophistication (3-1) ****
Our Eyes: Gonzalez has made some in-roads with top trainer Gerald Bennett with at least two winners so far. He jumps on a first-timer here for Bennett, who is 22% with first-timers. The sire Haynesfield gets 22% winners first time out. Npt much to beat in here.
Jeff’s Playbook: 4 units to win, 5 units to place and 6 units to show.

Race 4 – Tam
#8 Awfully Sinful (8-1) ***
Our Eyes: Looks like Ballinseklligs will be tough to beat, but this mare finished second in her Tampa debut and she will be getting four pounds from the likely favorite. Has the best Brisnet Ltae Pace Rating so worth a shot.
Jeff’s Playbook: 3 units to win, 4 units to place and 6 units to show. EXBX 8-5-1.

Race 6 – Tam
#7 Big Daddy B (12-1) ***
Our Eyes: Looks like a wide open race. This gelding won at this level in first start of meet at odds of 37-1, moved up in company and now comes back down. Jockey Wilmer Garcia has been riding well of late and might be able to score at a price again.
Jeff’s Playbook: 3 units to win, 5 units to place and 6 units to show. EXBX 7-6-1.

Race 9 – Tam
#3 Downtownbigbrown (9-2) ****
Our Eyes: This gelding drops to his lowest level ever for trainer Jason DaCosta, who is 39% with horses going sprint-route-sprint. Barn jockery Fernando De La Cruz rides..
Jeff’s Playbook: 4 units to win, 5 units to place and 6 units to show. EXBX 3-5-2.

Good luck.
