Preview: The weather should be fine today, but rain is in the forecast for Friday and Saturday so expect turf racing to be cancelled this weekend. On opening day Monday, nine race and nine different winning trainers and none of them named Baffert. Jockey Joel Rosario had two winners but he was interloping from South Florida and the comebacking Flavien Prat also had two winners.
Race 1: #6 Plastered (5-2)
Trainer Jerry Hollendorfer claimed this one at Del Mar for himself and moves him up in class (Jerry is 31% first off the claim) and he gets grass master Flavien Prat to ride this speedster.
Race 5: #6 Foxy Fresh (12-1)
Trainer Jim Cassidy and jockey Jamie Theriot were quiet a combination at Del Mar and although they have cooled this filly could score in her first try down the hill. She has been training well and has some early speed.
Race 7: #1 Roman Tizzy (7-2)
This old warrior has done fine over this track over the years and gets a key jock switch to Rafael Bejarano, who is 20% with trainer Vladimir Cerin at Santa Anita.
Race 8: #10 Miss Sugars (6-1)
This filly drops out of the Grade III Jimmy Durante at Del Mar, like many of the other females in this race. This 2-year-old had trouble in the race and still finished fourth in only her second start in the United States.
