Preview: Final day of the meet. With Flavien Prat hurt, the jockey title is wide open while Peter Miller has romped over the training field. Turf rails at zero. Just a note: I will be taking next week off from opinions at Los Alamitos, but will have some the second week of that short meet.
Race 1: #9 Hot in the City (5-1), 2. Norwegian Spy, 3. True Testament. LONG SHOT: Slalom.
Trainer Terry Knight doesn’t ship down much from Northern California so this filly must be the goods as he gets Kent Desormeaux to ride. The sire City Zip is 13% first time on grass and Knight is 21% overall with first-timers.
Race 2: 1. Country Road, 2. California Silver, 3. Mimis Big Boy. LONG SHOT: Sunny Dee.
Race 3: 1. Ciston, 2. Ice Kat, 3. Cedar Rapids. LONG SHOT: Liberty Park.
Race 4: 1. Late ‘n Left, 2. Who Said, Lucky, 3. Papa Mambo. LONG SHOT: Melanistic.
Race 5: #11 Longstocking (12-1), 2. Lady Pamela, 3. Patriotic Diamond. LONG SHOT: Mrs. Norris.
Our Eyes: Yes, this is a bad post, but there is a lot of upside here. This filly broke her maiden going two turns on the dirt and hasn’t been two turns since. Jockey John Velazquez, yes that top rider from New York, takes the mount and the filly is taking a drop in class.
Race 6: 1. Buzzer Beater, 2. Tuscany Beauty, 3. Rockantharos. LONG SHOT: Cecile’s Diamond.
Race 7: #12 Miss Temple City (3-1) BEST BET, 2. Time and Motion, 3. Roca Rojo. LONG SHOT: Mexican Gold.
Again the post isn’t the best but this mare has been facing the boys in her last two races and now is back with the females after finishing fifth in the Breeders’ Cup Mile. Trainer Graham Motion won two stakes shipping in for this meet already. Let’s make it the hat trick.
Race 8: 1. Jazzy Times, 2. St. Joe Bay, 3. The Gomper. LONG SHOT: Just Kidding.
Race 9: 1. Marchtothemusic, 2. Kina Dreams, 3. Bobby G. LONG SHOT: Bird Is the Word.
