Golden Gate, Horse racing, Laurel Park

Santa Anita opinions for Saturday,Oct. 22 (Plus a little Laurel and Golden Gate)

Preview: The week started on Thursday with five jockeys within two wins of each other for leading honors. Norberto Arroyo Jr. was on top with 12 followed by Flavien Prat, Tyler Baze and Kent Desormeaux all with 11. Rafael Bejarano was fifth with 10 wins but he also had 18 seconds and 10 thirds so he’s tough to leave out of any trifectas.

Race 3: #3 Star of Munster (7-2): Trainer Robertino Diodoro puts this one back on the dirt after a pair of failed turf efforts at Del Mar. This filly has three wins over this main track and takes a class drop. Diodoro is 21% with horses off a 46- to 90-day layoff.

Race 4: #7 Big Bane Theory (6-1): Hasn’t been seen since January, but trainer Carla Gaines is 19% off of long layoffs. This horse has won four times over this course in the past and jockey Joe Talamo has had success with him.

Race 7: #3 Adair (3-1): Trainer Ruben Gomez claimed this colt at Del Mar and has been off since. However, this 4-year-old is 5-3-1-1 over this main track and seems to hold a class edge. Gomez is 4-for-8 with beaten favorites and 30% first off the claim.

Race 8: #3 Fueled by Bourbon (8-1): Trainer Bill Spawr has been off to a hot start at the meet (10-3-3-1) and this gelding has won three times down the hill in the past. Spawr is 23% second off the claim and 35% going from a route to a sprint.

LAUREL SATURDAY

Race 6: #1 My Son Ernie (12-1): Trainer Wayne Potts obviously claimed this gelding with this race in mind as the 5-year-old hasn’t faced Maryland-based horses in a long time. Potts is 23% first off the claim and No. 1 post is winning at 18%. This gelding has the top Brisnet Speed Rating from his last race and the top Late Pace Rating. On top of that he’s coming out of a key race.

GOLDEN GATE SATURDAY

Race 8: #1 Siberian Laugher (6-1) (turf only): Trainer John Martin trained this one at Golden Gate and then ran on dirt at Fresno. Now tgis gelding is back on his favorite surface as he has five wins here. Martin is 30% second off the claim and 36% going dirt to turf. Jockey Kyle Frey is 31% with Martin the last 60 days.

Good luck.
