Preview: We are starting the fourth week of the meet and some trends are starting to show on the main track. The inside isn’t the place to be in dirt sprints with just three winners from 42 races 7%). Meanwhile, posts 3 through 5 have won 20 times from 42 races (47%). In dirt route races, the inside three posts are 14 for 22 (64%). Keep it in mind. I don’t see a lot of prices on this card.
Race 4: #6 California Silver (2-1)
This gelding comes out of a key race on the turf at Del Mar but returns to the dirt here. Both times this 4-year-old has beaten Just a Bit Outside, who is 5-2 in here, twice and has shown speed in both efforts. Give me a speed horse from from a MSW to a maiden claimer for the first time any time.
Race 6: #4 Royalist (5-2)
This gelding has been knocking on the door and almost won at this level here in May. After a trip to Golden Gate, he’s back for trainer Vann Belvoir and so is jockey Rafael Bejarano, who is 20% with Belvoir.
