Preview: The long 5-day racing week comes to an end with a very good card. There should be some prices with 2-year-old stakes races on the turf plus a few tough maiden events. Racing returns on Friday.
Race 1: #1 Mai Tai (6-1)
This filly has talent but she has had trouble in two races and ran into the talented Enola Gray in her debut. Jockey Kent Desormeaux and trainer Bob Hess are always a potent combination.
Race 3: #9 Mt. Leinster (20-1)
Our Eyes: Trainer Gary Stute puts the blinkers on this 2-year-old and it looks like they have been on for the last two works which have been good. Jockey Tyler Baze stays on which is encouraging as this gelding takes a drop in class.
Race 4: #8 Oh Scatty Oh (8-1)
Trainer Peter Miller has two in here, including the favored Ciao Bella Rosa, but we’ll go with the longer price. This filly had trouble in her debut going long on the Del Mar green, but jockey Victor Espinoza sticks and he’s 20% with Miller.
Race 6: #5 La Force (12-1)
This filly makes her U.S debut and trainer Paddy Gallagher is 18% in that situation. This daughter of Power is bred to run all day on the dam’s sire side and jockey Rafael Bejarano, who is 31% with Gallagher, rides.
Race 9: #2 Oopper Wallah (15-1)
Our Eyes: Trainer Peter Miller could have a huge Columbus Day. This colt held on a 6 furlongs in his debut and he’s bred to run all day on the bottom side. The sire Congrats is 8% with first-time turfers. Jockey Norberto Arroyo Jr. opened a lot of eyes on the turf at Del Mar and he’s 28% with Miller.
