Preview: The new turf course has shown any real tendencies yet. Down the hill, the No. 3 post is 2-for-5 while posts 1, 2, 4-5-6 are all 0-for-5 or 0-for-25 however you want to look at it. In turf route races, the inside four posts are a total of 7-for-10.
Race 5: #2 Go for Bear (4-1)
This filly gets a key jockey switch from apprentic AB Solis to Flavien Prat, who is 21% with trainer Mike McCarthy at Santa Anita. McCarthy is 18% with horses making their second career start.
Race 8: #6 Juno (10-1)
Trainer Richard Mandella decides to go back to the dirt after a fifth-place finish on the turf. Mandella is 23% with horses off a 46 to 90-day layoff. Jockey Victor Espinoza takes over.
Race 9: #6 Diplodocus (4-1)
This 3-year-old had a nightmare trip in the Del Mar Derby. The gelding has the top speed mark in his last race and Brisnet back speed rating. Jockey Kent Desormeaux jumps back on and trainer Richard Baltas is 21% second off a short layoff.
