Preview: The Santa Anita main track played to speed on Thursday as did the turf course but the rails were out 30 feet on the grass. Back to the dirt, The first four days of the meet inside hasn’t been the place to be in sprints with one winner from 17 races from the No. 1 and 2 posts. The opposite was true in dirt route races as fur horses won from the 1-2 posts in seven races. Keep an eye on the track.
Race 1: #6 Halo Darlin (6-1): Kind of surprising this filly didn’t run at Los Alamitos because her top Beyer came there so trainer Mike Puype must have been looking at this spot. Puype is 16% second off the layoff and 21% with jockey Joe Talamo at Santa Anita.
Race 3: #6 Bobby G (8-1): This son of Awesome Again was bred to route out of a Malibu Moon mare. He finished fourth to Gormley, who just happened to win the Frontrunner Stakes last weekend. This colt cost $300K at auction and trainer Doug O’Neill gets Flavien Prat to ride.
Race 8: #10 Vyjack (4-1): Obviously will be on the front end of this race, but this gelding has the top Late Pace Rating and should Obviously get bothered on the front end jockey Flavien Prat could guide this 6-year-old to victory from trainer Phil D’Amato.
Race 10: #2 Siberian Iris (6-1): Trainer Richard Mandella has been known to score with a first-time 2-year-old starter on the turf like this daughter of Excelebration, a sire based in Ireland which gets 13% first time winners on grass. Flavien Prat rides and he’s 20% with Mandella. This filly has had several good works for this.
Good luck.
