Horse racing, Santa Anita

Santa Anita opinions for Friday, Oct. 7

Preview: There were some trainers ready to run their horses last weekend. On the good end, Peter Miller was 4-for-12 and Bob Baffert was 2-for-11. On the bad end were Doug O’Neill 1-for-20, Jerry Hollendorfer 1-for-11 and Phil D’Amato 0-for-10.

Race 1: #7 Louden’s Gray (5-2)
This gelding just missed at this level at Del Mar on the dirt, went north to try the turf and finished third. Now he comes back to the dirt and trainer Bill Morey is 24% second off the claim plus he gets the services of jockey Rafael Bejarano.

Race 4: #9 Tooluckysupermoon (30-1)
I think a mistake was made on this morning-line because she was 7-1 at this level two back. If we get this line, I’ll take it. This mare broke her maiden over the track and trainer Jorge Periban puts apprentice Chad Lindsay on. That means to me, they are going to gun from the gate.

Race 8: #2 So Good to Go (4-1)
Trainer Efrain Miranda doesn’t ship much to SoCal so beware of this mare, which won at this exact level at this distance in June before the turf course was replaced. Martin Garcia rode her that day and is back on after she ran once in NoCal.
