Preview: Kent Desormeaux (14-5-0-0) and Victor Espinoza (11-4-1-1) came out swinging the first weekend at Santa Anita with Espinoza piling up the money. Watch out for Rafael Bejarano (21-3-7-3), who had a lot a seconds, and Flavien Prat (19-2-3-6), who had a lot of thirds. It’s just a matter of time for those two.
Race 3: #1 Lucy De (9-5)
This filly has finished second two times in a row before going to the sidelines and trainer Mike Puype is 19% with horses off long layoff and 28% with Prat at Santa Anita.
Race 5: #2 Too Fast to Pass (9-2)
Trainer Peter Miller, who is off to a fast start at the meet, claimed this gelding at Del Mar no doubt for Santa Anita in mind. This 6-year-old is 12-3–2-0 at the track with five wins in seven tries at this distance.
Race 7: #6 Flamingo Lane (9-2)
Trainer Peter Miller and jockey Kent Desormeaux team up here. This mare needs to show the same early speed she did two back at Del Mar because the rails will be at 30 feet and it’s likely to be tough to pass.
