Race 2: #4 Basie Boots (9-5): This filly likes to finish second, but maybe the switch to leading jockey Rafael Bejarano will get her over the humps for trainer Mike Pender, who is 25% with Bejarano at Santa Anita.
Race 4: #5 Aztec Warrior (7-2): Sire by Kitten’s Joy, we know this 3-year-old should love the grass. He hasn’t gotten over the hump, but maybe that’s why trainer Doug O’Neill gelded him. Jockey Rafael Bejarano keeps the mount and he’s 21% with O’Neill at Santa Anita.
Race 6: #3 Flamboyant (5-1): We loved this gelding last time at Del Mar, but jockey Flavien Prat misjudged the slow pace and ended up eighth. Hall of Fame jockey Mike Smith gets the mount today look for a different effort. This 5-year-old has three wins at Santa Anita so he likes the environment for trainer Paddy Gallagher.
Race 9: #4 Sutton’s Smile (4-1): Flavien Prat can’t get every ride right, but he jumps on this filly for trainer Phil D’Amato and he’s 37 with D’Amato at Santa Anita. Prat likes to get to the rail and let others float out. This is the third off the layoff so look for a big effort by this daughter of Paddy O’Prado.
Good luck.
