Del Mar, Horse racing

Del Mar selections for Friday, Aug. 12 (4 p.m. first post)

Preview: Flavien Prat may be the top jockey in the standings, but Santiago Gonzalez is leading all jockeys on the dirt with 11 wins from 65 mounts. Prat is second at 10-53 and Rafael Bejarano is 8-for-41. Good day on Thursday. Let’s keep it rolling.

Race 1: 1. #4 Yavrig (4-1), 2. Journeytothestars, 3. correlation. LONG SHOT: Tinian.
This filly drops to her lowest level ever in the maiden claiming ranks and she cuts back in distance, a move trainer Richard Baltas is 21% at. Brayan Pena replaces apprentice Chad Linsay in the saddle.

Race 2: 1. #5 Upfront (5-1), 2. Ciao Bella Rosa, 3. Simmy’s Temple. LONG SHOT: Crime Boss.
Our Eyes: Trainer Richard Mandella and jockey Flavien Prat teammed up to win a 2-year-old maiden race on the grass on Wednesday and they try here again with an $800K daughter of War Front. Pedigree says she wants to run all day and War Front is 17% first time out on the grass.

Race 3: 1. Hadfunlastnight, 2. Iancol, 3. Dive Down. LONG SHOT: A Colt Following.

Race 4: 1. Amberella, 2. Shakeitupbetty, 3. Sparkling Peg. LONG SHOT: Papaslilprincess.

Race 5: 1. #1 Lady Sophia (12-1), 2. Blame It On Alphie, 3. Point Streak. LONG SHOT: Jami Racer.
Our Eyes: It looks like her last race was just a prep as trainer Victor Garcia is 42% with horse going a route for the first time. This 2-year-old filly is by Eskendereya (8% first time turf) out of a Danehill (14% first time turf) mare.

Race 6: 1. Touching Rainbows, 2. Spitfire, 3. Junior Gilliam. LONG SHOT: Knight of Drama.

Race 7: 1. Rocket Heat, 2. Hunt, 3. No Silent. LONG SHOT: Why Two.

Race 8: 1. Highly Acclaimed (5-2) BEST BET, 2. Close to Midnight, 3. If Ur Not Early. LONG SHOT: Boo Boo Bear.
Big works for this first time starter.
