Horse racing, Santa Anita

Santa Anita opinions for Saturday, June 18

Race 2 – SA
#3 Princess Ashlyn (5-1): This filly has been working a hole in the wind since that last races. These works have all been on dirt so maybe that’s what she really wants. Former jockey Kenny Black is an underrated trainer and this 4-year-old has a lot of early zip.

Race 3 – SA
#5 Out of Patience (5-1): This gelding gets a huge jock change from apprentice Lindsay to leading turf rider Flavien Prat, who is 2-for-3 for trainer Gary Stute at Santa Anita. The 5-year-old has some back class and the top late pace rating from Brisnet.

Race 7 – SA
#2 Tatar (8-1): Trainer Edward Freeman does a lot of training Reddam Racing LLC. He tends to get the second-string as Doug O’Neill gets the first string but Freeman still does pretty well and he wins 24% with first-time starters. This is a song of Square Eddie, who gets 16% winners first time out. Plus jockey Mario Gutierrez, who rides first string for Reddam, took this one over another Reddam/Freeman starter.

Race 9 – SA
#7 Unusually Talented (6-1): I’m pretty sure this filly will be on the lead out of the gate in her first try around two turns for trainer Jerry Hollendorfer, who is 23% with horses making their second turf start. This is a daughter of Unusual Heat so there should be no issue getting the one mile distance.

Good luck.
