Horse racing, Santa Anita

Santa Anita opinions for Sunday, May 22

Preview: Pretty unusually to only see.two turf races on a weekend card, but that’s what we have today. Lots of dirt and smaller fields.

Race 2 – SA
#9 Dixie Dame (9-2): This filly has been favored in her last two and come up short. Trainer Phil D’Amato is 29% with beaten favorites and he’s 40% with jockey Edwin Maldonado at Santa Anita.

Race 8 – SA
#9 Alexita (5-2): I don’t see a lot of speed in this race, but this filly has plenty of speed. She bobbled at the start last time and rushed up. Apprentice Brayan Pena rides for trainer Peter Miller and they are 23% at Santa Anita.

Race 10 – SA
#8 Behest (3-1): This filly won over the downhill layout at the beginning of the year and then went to the sidelines for trainer Phil D’Amato, who is 26% with horses off a 90-plus-day layoff. Jockey Drayden Van Dyke rides and he’s 43% with D’Amato.
