Horse racing, Santa Anita

Santa Anita opinions for Sunday, April 3

Preview: Payoffs have been slim to say the least lately in the Pick 5 as Santa Anita has been back loading the cards in hopes of getting a Pick Six carryover since it gets a bigger cut of the Pick Six than the Pick 5, but today’s first is interesting maiden turf race.

Race 1 – SA

#6 Lady Cloud (4-1): Trainer Victor Garcia is 41% when sending a horse around two turns for the first time and he’s 30% going from a sprint to a route. He has extra incentive as this 3-year-old is owned by his father, Juan. Tyler Baze rides and he’s 21% with Garcia.

Race 4 – SA

#2 Sky Preacher (8-1): Trainer Doug O’Neill brings this colt back off a nearly year off and he’s 16% with long layoffs. He’s also 20% first time he drops a horse into a claiming race. This 4-year-old is 5-2-1-0 on turf

Race 6 – SA

#5 Dream Police (3-1): Trainer Richard Baltas is 35% with beaten favorites and 32% with putting the blinkers on. Jockey Felipe Valdez is 25% with Baltas at Santa Anita. Owner Bloom Racing Stable LLC has been hot this year.
