Horse racing, Tampa Bay Downs

Tampa Bay Downs opinions for Thursday, Feb. 19

Not the best card but at least there are seven or more horses in all of the races. First five-day racing week so you might see fields go down a little bit.

Added note: No picks for Friday Feb. 19 at Tampa or Santa Anita. I had an eye procedure on Tuesday and still pretty swollen. Sorry.

Race 4 – Tam

#10 Catskill Flyer (9-2)

Trainer Barbara McBride is 42% when she drops a horse two or more class levels like she is doing here. This filly has the top Brisnet class rating and best last race speed rating.

Race 5 – Tam

#3 Replay (turf only) (9-2)

This gelding just missed last time out when he drew an outside post. He draws inside today so Ronnie Allen Jr. should be able to get a better position. Trainer Chad Stewart is 24% with horses off a 46-90-day layoff.

Race 8 – Tam

#7 Icatiro (3-1)

Trainer Efren Loza Jr. has the well-documented stat of winning 42% of his first-time starters and he’s better on dirt and in maiden claimers. Leading jockey Antonio Gallardo gets the ride and he’s 3-for-3 with Loza at the meet.
