Horse racing, Tampa Bay Downs

Tampa Bay Downs opinions for Wednesday, Jan. 6

Preview: Not a great mid-week card but at least six of the races have 10 entries before scratches. Last week, jockey Antonio Gallardo won 10 times, including three wins at odds of 5-1 or more. Like we said last week, Scott Spieth is a jockey to watch for as he won five times, including payoffs of $130.80 and $76.80 on two winners.

Race 7: #3 Gasparilla Invader (10-1)

It isn’t often that we get jockey Antonio Gallardo at this large of a morning-line. Trainer Christos Gatis is 21% with horses off a 46-90-day layoff and is 27% with Gallardo.

Race 9: #2 Conquering (3-1)

Antonio Gallardo jumps on this Bill Mott-trainee that is making its second start. Mott horses improve with racing and this filly is coming out of a race that has produced three next out winners.
