Race 2: #1 Just Google Me (8-1)
Trainer Scott Rollins, who mainly plies his trade in Arizona, brings this Cal-bred over from the desert. The daughter of Stormin Fever has some good works and Rollins is 3-for-6 with first-time starters plus he puts speed jockey Edwin Maldonado aboard. Watch out for the two outside horses of OCTOFY (training lights out for Doug O’Neill) and MALIBU RUM RUN (trained by Jerry Hollendorfer). An exacta box of 1-7-8 might be a good idea.
Race 7: #5 Marynetta (6-1)
Trainer Andy Mathis doesn’t come down to SoCal all that much so when he does you need to take notice. Mathis is 39% second off a layoff and 32% taking horses from an all-weather track to dirt. This 7-year-old mare has three lifetime wins on dirt.
Race 9: #1 Midnightatmarions (20-1)
Has been away for more than a year, but comes out of a maiden race that has produced five next out winners. Was mid-pack in debut until tried to jump inner rail. Trainer Jim Ryerson is 10% with horses coming off a 90-plus-day layoff. Worth a shot.
Race 9: #5 Platinum Prince (turf only) (15-1)
Been away since November, but trainer Harry Benson is 2-for-6 with layoffs greater than 90 days. This one broke its maiden at this distance on the grass and red-hot jockey Edgard Zayas takes the mount.
