Santa Anita opinions for Thursday, May 21

Race 1: #3 Modonna (NL)

Trainer Molly Pearson wins a lot of her races in Arizona, but can win on this circuit. She has two first-timers in this 2-year-old filly race and this daughter of Uncle Mo seems faster than her stablemate. Uncle Mo is 1-for-2 so far as a first-year sire.

Race 6: #6 Wynhurst (NL)

Trainer Bob Baffert drops this 4-year-old into a maiden claimer for the first time. The colt pressed the pace in his first race in more than a year, but tired. Regular barn rider Martin Garcia takes over.

Race 8: #8 Light Dew (NL)

Trainer E.G. Burnison is 0-for-7 in his last tries with first-time starters, but make no mistake he can get one ready. The sire Tribal Rule wins 14% first time and this 4-year-old has a good last work showing and it won’t take much in this $20K maiden claimer.
