Jockey Corey Nakatani has proven to be the biggest benefactor following Rafael Bejarano’s injuries in a spill two weekends ago at Arcadia’s Santa Anita Park.
Nakatani, who has picked up a lot of mounts from trainer Jerry Hollendorfer, won five times from 12 mounts during last week’s abbreviated three-day schedule due to the cancellation of racing on Thursday because of the oppressive heat wave.
Jockeys Joe Talamo (23 mounts), Tyler Baze (21) and Edwin Maldonado (22) all had three victories. Fernando Perez was 2-for-18.
Apprentice jockey Drayden Van Dyke had a tough weekend with just one win from 18 mounts.
On the training side, it was very well spread out. Hollendorfer was 3-for-7 on the week while leading trainer (for the spring/summer meet) Doug O’Neill went 3-for-13. After a strong couple of weeks, Peter Miller went back into hibernation with an 0-for-5 week.
